-Needed where people could fall from a height of 1m or more
“ A ‘baluster’ is defined as ‘a post providing support for the top and bottom rails of a barrier’ and ‘balustrade’ as the ‘infill parts of a barrier’.“
“Where people could fall one metre or more from an opening in the external envelope or floor of a building, or from a sudden change of level within or associated with a building, a barrier shall be provided.“
“The Acceptable Solution F4/AS1 (Table 1) requires barrier heights in buildings other than housing to be 900mm on stairs and ramps, and 1100mm elsewhere.”
“...durability requirement of not less than 15 years for balusters”
How does the Balustrade work with the functional element of the mezzanine floor?
1. How can the balustrade be incorporated when it is at ground-level and how is it used when it is at mid-height, then away again at full-height when it is not in use.
Needs to be a safe way of descent down from the mezzanine.
1. How can a descent element be added to the mezzanine while it is in use?
