#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEKS 2025: THROWBACK
Remembering where we started and our shared decade in kdramas. A prompt for the female centric kdramas and female characters we have loved over the past decade, maybe our first loves that started it all (2015-2025).
Just like every year, this event is open to anyone who wants to join us in celebrating our favorite women from Korean dramas. Make sure to use #kdramawomensweeks and/or #kww2025 so we can find your posts!

@userdramas Secret Santa 2023
Happy holidays @sivvan!!! I hope you have a fantastic holiday and a great new year! I wanted to combine your favorite drama with a SVT lyric! I didn't plan on it being DK's verse but love how that worked out. I hope you like this!
— I’ll play “Wedding March” at your wedding.
— No thanks, You’ll only ruin my wedding. Instead, why don’t you stand next to me?
— Why would I stand next to you instead of your wife?
Twenty-five, Twenty-one is like the ultimate culmination of every Nam Joo Hyuk character ever ?,,, like there are similarities w all of his other major dramas???
There’s the obvious:
The ever-supportive boyfriend of a future Olympian (like in weightlifting fairy)
Then the SPOILER!!!!!:
The person the fl confuses for her long time pen pal (like in start up which was beyond frustrating so this drama better not go there)
Then the one that only the realest kdrama hoes realised:
The news reporter in a past timeline who isn’t necessarily involved in the fl’s current life (like in the light in your eyes)
Like bro chill play someone new but also don’t because I’m actually devastatingly in love with all four of these characters that you have played and you have fucking mastered the respectful, supportive, devoted and unbelievably loyal male lead.
15: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo or Cheese in the Trap? c:
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo!! It was one of the earliest dramas I ever saw, and I loved it. I actually haven't seen Cheese in the Trap lol, I haven't heard good things about it and it kinda put me off
Halfway through Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo and I love it so much!
He’s the sweetest guy ever and such a good friend to her.
I love how comfortable they are with each other.
And their banter is actually hilarious!
Review: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (KDrama)
This drama had me really excited for one reason. Nam Joo Hyuk. I mean, Lee Sung Kyung had only played in roles that were evil or uncharacteristically devious. However, the premise of this drama sounded great to me. As long as Nam Joo Hyuk got the happy ending was all I wanted.
Cast: Lee Sung Kyung (She was so adorable), Nam Joo Hyuk (finally gets his lead role), Kyung Soo Jin (she was in this drama to get shit on), and Lee Jae Joon (ah I guess he was okay).
My Thoughts: This drama shows the world that no matter what you look like and what you do, you deserve happiness. Bok Joo is a happy go lucky athlete who wants love just like anyone else. She discovers that she doesn’t have to change herself to do it. I thought it was funny that Kim Bok Joo fell in love with Joon-Hyung’s brother first. It was a little coincidental that he was a dietician as well. Overall the drama dealt with the troubles of unrequited love and being confident about yourself. It made anyone want to go out and seize the day.
I really loved the dynamic in this drama. For the first section it wasn’t about the struggles about not getting the guy you want, but the process of courting someone. I loved how Joon Hyung helped Bok Joo to get his brother. I mean he was a little antagonistic at first, but this is the very first drama where the incessant teasing actually seemed to be joking. I can never get the image of Nam Joo Hyuk saying pig with a smile out of my head now. I also liked how they depicted the struggles of athletes and what they do to overcome them. It was a bit like To The Beautiful You in that sense, minus the cross-dressing and the ridiculous SM product placement. Even the second female lead did rhythmic gymnastics in this drama as well. I was really happy that the lead characters were surrounded by friends that were supportive, but still had great story arcs of their own. Let’s not also forget that great cameo by Lee Jung Suk.
I’m going to add a bonus gif
The romance in this drama was a little cringe-inducing at times but was so satisfying. Joon-Hyung wasn’t abusive. I don’t recall any wrist grabbing. However, he did get really jealous (curse you Ji Soo). But Joon Hyung understood what she liked and how she felt. Except when he called her pig. That one took him awhile. They did include the trope that he had an evil ex-girlfriend, but I mean it’s a kdrama. She didn’t stay evil for long. Also, the trope where they met as kids was included as well. Other than that I enjoyed that Bok Joo really wore the pants in the relationship. They depended on each other equally but she took the lead. They gradually went from being friends to a relationship which felt healthy.
I just really loved this drama. It had struggles, but none of them to break apart the main characters. No one got run over by a bus or evil grandparents. Their were mommy issues. That was the only part in the drama that I didn’t like was when Joon Hyung had to face his mother and all that. The adults had good stoylinesas weel from Bok Joo’s coaches, her father, and even her weird uncle.. This drama made me so happy!
