if there was one thing arthur fleck knew, it was that life wasn’t like movies. life was painful and cruel. it wasn’t enchanting and full of happiness. arthur always wanted to be trapped in an enchanting world, full of happiness. life wasn’t like the french romances that he’d watch with his grandfather, and it surely wasn’t a french romance in the elevator that took him down to the cafeteria. tuesdays were always good days. aside from meeting his therapist and asking the usual questions, he always looked forward to the cafeteria. as a patient of arkham state hospital, he was allowed to have free meals. the frail man tried his hardest to ignore the strapped patient that was screaming his mind out. anxiously tapping his foot on the elevator floor, arthur tried to push all the screams out in favor of classical romantic tunes. he was able block all the sounds out with the music that was going through his heart, it was calming and soothing. a little smirk managed to form on his lips as he soon sees the elevator doors open. arthur wanted to dance, but he knew this wasn’t the right place or time to dance. he needed to behave like the rest. tightly gripping onto the ragged duffel bag with both of his hands and pressing it against his chest, he sprinted out of the elevator before turning around to see the patient continuing to scream, but music still played inside the frail man’s soul. though music didn’t stop the smell of feces. it was the usual, but the smell always got to arthur. there would always be that one person in the cafeteria, who would poop themselves. he wasn’t sure if it was on purpose or not, but he didn’t like it. the farther he could get, the better. quickly pacing himself away from the wretched smell, he got in line and took a tray.
