Verdi's Otello: Jealousy and tragedy in a Shakespeare-inspired opera

Verdi gives his three protagonists, Otello, Iago, and Desdemona, multiple solo moments -- arias that express feelings rather than moving the plot forward.

One thing that opera can deliver that Shakespeare cannot is the power of the choral writing. The writing of the chorus in Otello is different than most of Verdi’s other operas. In the first act, they create the drama in the opening with almost 20 minutes of uninterrupted singing. Their music tells us everything about what is to come in terms of the storms, both literally in nature and figuratively among the protagonists.

Wild Night Out → Chris & Ross

Chris hadn’t gone out in a long time and he couldn’t even remember the last time he got drunk. It was going to be interesting to say the least, especially since Ross struck him as the type to go hard and wild. He was intrigued to see how the night would go but he was also slightly terrified, not knowing if he’d be able to keep up with Ross. Either way, it was going to be the start of a beautiful friendship and he was excited for that. Chris put on a black v-neck shirt and a pair of khaki pants, fixing his hair quickly and smoothing his shirt down as he took a deep breath. He said goodbye to Melissa and made his way towards Ross’ hotel room, knowing that he was going to be bringing him somewhere that they could drink and have a good time. Knocking on the door of his hotel room, Chris waited for the guy to answer, tapping his foot impatiently. @rossbxtler
