DJBC Archives - World College Radio Day (2019)
Today is World College Radio Day, a day on the first Friday of October to celebrate college (run) radio stations. Here are highlights from our trip to WOBN at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio for Homecoming and to celebrate World College Radio Day in 2019.
Greeting from World College Radio Day (2019)
In this rare “Cut for Time” Feature Story, The DJBC Happy Hour went on location to DJBC’s alma mater, Otterbein University for National College Radio Day at WOBN FM 97.5.
National College Radio Day is today, held on the first Friday of October, promoting awareness of College and University Student-led Radio Stations. Here are highlights of my return to WOBN last year for National College Radio Day.
DJBC Tumblr Fall Flashback - WOBN: 70th Anniversary (2018)
Otterbein University’s Homecoming Festivities are Virtual This Year. Here are highlights from the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Otterbein’s student-run radio station, WOBN-FM, which was held in the Student Lounge area of the Otterbein Communication Building. 2018 was a year of transition for WOBN as longtime adviser Dr. Janice Windborne retired, and handed over reigns of the station to Communications Professor Dr. Eric Jones, who has been at Otterbein since 2006. Former WOBN advisers John Buckles and Serena Smith also paid a visit to the Anniversary Celebration.
Highlights from Otterbein Homecoming 2018
The DJBC Tumblr Summer Tour comes to an end with the 101st Homecoming at Otterbein University. The theme was “Home Is Where The Heart Is”, and was bittersweet for the University’s Director of Alumni Relations, Becky Smith, who retired this week after 41 years of service to the University. A slight change was made to the Homecoming Court, as King and Queen were ditched, in favor of Homecoming Royalty (the top two vote-getters). The Where We Stand Campaign raised over $ 52 Million for Otterbein. The college radio station, WOBN-FM, celebrated 70 years on the air. The football team fell to 0-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference Play, losing 13-7 to Ohio Northern. There were also Class Reunions, and the theatrical production of Big Fish at Cowan Hall, as well.
Mark your calendars for next year’s Homecoming. September 20 and 21, 2019 are the dates.
