Nice. I've been wondering if Emma was somehow responsible for the death of her parent(s) (in the reality layer), and the repressed memory idea here could be an interesting parallel.
Yeah, basically, my current take is that she killed an abusive foster father - possibly Henry’s real father - in protection of an unborn Henry and herself - another reason she’s the Savior? Or was it about preventing forced abortion or adoption? The murder of a parent keeps coming back. Some murders are self defense. Cruella was in protection of Henry. Belle’s mother died protecting Belle - a metaphor for life, could be unborn life - and there was memory loss there too. The shadow goes after little Michael and Bae protects him. It seems like the same memory from different angles.
I think Hook represents the person she killed, because he appears under a pile of dead bodies, while in that same episode, Regina and Archie discuss the curse bringing back dead people. The whole story between Hook and Emma is about her not wanting to let go. Makes a lot of sense if it’s about her guilt and as she keeps him alive, she stops being a murderer.
...all that being said, I need to rewatch the whole thing again, see if the pieces can fit together in different ways or if there’s something I’m overlooking. The killing of the father/parent, though... very, very recurring. Just the circumstances are difficult to determine, so I haven’t made a big post about it yet.
