My wife and I went to the #yamnuskawolfdogsanctuary today. These amazing creatures are so noble and gentle. The people here do great work rescuing the wolf dogs from backyard breeding situations and from wildlife preserves where they are typically abused and/or mistaken for 100 percent pure-bred wolves respectively. Wolf dogs are man-made blending of wolves and dogs and many of them have high wolf DNA content which means they are too wild to be kept as pets but have too much dog DNA to be released in the wild. They were initially harvested for their fur but places like this center provide a safe refuge for them. They are smart and confident. Unlike pure dogs they have no desire to please humans and are generally fearful of them and skeptical of strangers but form strong bonds with their keepers. The one I am feeding Loki has a bit more dog DNA then some of the others so some his behaviors definitely reminded me of my parents dog Leia. Wolf dogs get their fear of humans and intelligence from wolves but they are able to live in peace with their keepers. The last picture is a view of the #rockies from the sanctuary. #wolfdog #wolfdogsanctuary #rockymountains #yamnuska (at Canmore, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj9W0OvrsBv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
