Resisting an alpha’s roar and their influence is a closely guarded secret that requires years of intense study. Rare betas who manage to master that skill are in high demand as guards for alpha packs since they can’t be controlled by any rival alpha. Some beta families have discovered this secret and have passed it down throughout the generations, such as the well-known Argent family. They’ve marketed their skills as “hunters” or those who police criminals for the alphas. When a rogue alpha is too violent, bloodthirsty, or insane and is completely out of control, a group of alphas will call on the Argent family to remove the threat. The work is extremely dangerous and the Argents are highly honored for their work.
Wolf Fact #55
In recent years, a rise has been seen in influential beta families, particularly those in New Money. However, the a specialized group of betas, Beta Guards, have always been held in high regard. Beta Guards are betas who have undergone decades of training to protect alphas from other alphas. They are capable of resisting an alpha’s roar, which incapacitates and ‘freezes’ untrained betas and omegas for prolonged periods of time. An alpha’s roar has always been a symbol of superiority among wolves. Training to become a beta guard is not readily available to the general public, and undergoing training does not guarantee skill development.
Wolf Fact #54
In Ancient Egypt, it was a common practice to celebrate the birth of an alpha (marked by a wolf’s sixteenth birthday) with a ‘Salute.’ Young alphas would compete to see who could roar the loudest, thereby affecting the most in their audience. This practice was generally observed only in the upper class. Similar coming-of-age rituals have been reported in the Americas, Central and East Asia, and parts of Europe.
Wolf Fact #53
An alpha’s roar has always been a symbol of superiority among wolves. It incapacitates all omegas and untrained betas in hearing distance, by forcing them to their knees and forcing them to ‘freeze.’ In rare cases, wolves have been reported to remain under the effects of the roar for up to ten minutes. Susceptibility is based on numerous factors, many of which remain unknown, though genetics and temperament are strongly implied as influencing factors. It is impossible for omegas to resist the effects of an alpha’s roar.
Wolf Fact #52
The 2016 presidential debates are coming up, with candidate Haley Crinson looking to make history by being the first beta female president. Up until this point, the US has only had one beta president, Woodrow Wilson, who tried to create a new international organization to promote world peace. The United States has had 19 female presidents, all alpha, and 25 male presidents throughout its history. Barney Saunders is her chief rival, another beta from a working class family and the first to run who wasn't the child of an alpha or married to an alpha. The Republican field is once again dominated by established white alpha males. Their frontrunner, Dangle Blump, is a wealthy businessman running on a campaign to enforce mandatory omega registration and tagging to keep our communities safe from "uncontrolled animal elements and criminals."
