Prompt 9 - Glisten
@wolfstarmicrofic March 9, word count 320
Sirius paced back and forth across the Potter's living room. James sat patiently and watched him wearing the carpet out. “Sirius, he’s going to say yes. Stop fretting,” James finally said. Sirius stopped in his tracks, spinning on the protesting carpet to face his best friend.
“But what if he doesn’t? What if I’m left with this stupid sapphire in its stupid box, and he dumps me?” Sirius’s breaths were heaving. He was more nervous than he’d ever been before. James took a deep breath before standing and taking both of Sirius’s hands in his.
“Pads, there is no universe in existence where Remus would say no,” It was a ridiculous sentence, and it shouldn’t have worked, but it did calm Sirius down long enough to finish setting up what he had planned.
The moon had risen and Remus had arrived. Silently, Sirius took his hand and led him into the garden where he’d lit a hundred candles.
“What the?” Remus said, gazing around at the flickering flames. He turned to Sirius, but Sirius was already down on one knee. The little box containing the only family heirloom he owned open in his hands.
“Remus John Lupin, will you marry me?” Remus’s eyes began to glisten as he took in the sight before him. He sucked in a gasping breath as though he’d forgotten to breathe and sunk to the ground.
“Yes,” he whispered and, with shaking hands, Sirius removed the delicate ring and slid it onto Remus’s ring finger.
“WOOHOO!!!” James cawed, setting off the fireworks at his feet and quickly darting away.
“I love you,” Sirius murmured as they looked up at the illuminated night sky.
“I love you too,” Remus replied, and Sirius felt like the luckiest man in the world, all his earlier worries washed away by Remus’s yes. They were going to get married. He leaned his head against Remus’s shoulder and imagined their future.
