a bit more
went to a student composers condcert@ uc berkely with the composer charles berry. a young woman introduced her piece by saying that the work of stefan wolpe was a major influence, piece was pretty good and when it ended i said to charles that i*d read the name wolpe but had never heard a note of his. charles said something like yea me either so we set out to hear some wolpe and i*m still at it. still entranced.25 yrs later. more-wolpe was one of the people they treated with L-dopa for parkinsons. like the movie awakenings with robin williams and deniro. and like the movie he did very well for a time then crashed and died soon after... medicine not always an exact science, alas just a bit more ok? wolpe was compulsive about writing music-he would draw staff lines on the tablecloth in a resturant or a subway ticket or one time his shirt sleeve and just start writing out the ideas in his head. imagine having to buy the tablecloth before you could go home with your new composition......
