Nick about Silas (ZEIT Campus Interview, December 2025)
Nick: [...] I’m the kind of player who needs to feel comfortable to deliver. That’s why the people around me are so important: my family, my agent, my friends. My best friend Silas—I’ve known him for nearly ten years—even moved to Newcastle with me this summer and started doing his business degree as distance learning.
Q: What’s your shared living situation like?
Nick: It’s the first shared apartment for both of us, and it’s remarkably tidy considering that. We have a few rules: dishes always get washed right away, and shoes go neatly into the shoe cabinet. Everything was already furnished, so it doesn’t look particularly personal yet. I made the move at the last minute—at the end of August—so for now, I only brought my bed from Germany. I need a special model; after all, I’m 1.98 meters tall. Otherwise, I’m really enjoying life in the shared flat: we have breakfast together in the morning, and in the evening we chill and watch football—unless I have a match myself. We even watch the second or third German leagues; Thore, a good friend of ours, plays for 1860 Munich.
