My Friend,
I am writing to implore you to consider the man I will be sending to join your ranks among the Vanguard. He was previously held by the Mageseekers under inhumane conditions, and though there are some oddities about him, I am sure he will make a strong and capable addition to the ranks. I think your kindness will be best for him. Please, show him what being a Demacian truly means.
Sincerely, Prince Jarvan IV
It was exceptionally rare that soldiers were sent to the ranks of the Vanguard under direct order of the prince— so rare was it, that it had not happened before, at least under Garen’s leadership of the Vanguard. He read over the brief letter again, pondering it for a time. He had no intentions of turning away the new recruit, of course, but he wasn’t prepared in the slightest. He had to inform the others of the first shield, of course, and then there would be the matter of getting the man fitted for armor, finding his weapon of choice, arranging quarters for him.
With a sigh, Garen folds the letter closed and rubs his brow with a gloved hand, combing his thoughts for an efficient plan. At the very least, the first thing was to arrange quarters for the new member of the Vanguard, and so that became Garen’s intent when he left his Captain’s Quarters. As soon as he left the room however, he was greeted by a waiting soldier ready with an early morning report.
“Sir,” the soldier spoke, “There is someone outside the gates to see you.”
“This early?” he asked, his surprise leading his tongue before his inhibition could catch it. The soldier merely blinked at him, seemingly taken aback by his Captain’s response.
“Very well, bring them inside,” Garen quickly added, brushing aside his earlier sentiment in order to attend to the duties the day greeted him with. He’ll have to address his concerns for the new recruit at a later point in the day it seemed.
