Laine wondered, and not for the first time, how she always seemed to manage to get herself into these situations.
She had been in the Cosmodrome, scouting out a series of abandoned buildings, looked like they were labs at one point, only to stumble upon a Hive infestation. She’d been too deep into the facilities to escape quickly, and had quickly gotten surrounded and overwhelmed. The Darkness was thick here, its presence choking her like ash. Her Ghost Haven had fallen silent a bit ago, the Darkness taking its toll on him too.
So there she was, injured and exhausted, her Light low, crouched around a corner in a wide hallway. She had ran, trying to get some distance, any distance, between her and the Hive. She knew they’ find her though. She’d run out of ammo a bit ago, leaving her with nothing but a shortsword to defend herself with. At least she had that.
She tried to steady her breathing as she heard the chattering of thralls not far off. Her helmet had gotten knocked off a while ago, and she was sure some thrall claws had raked across her forehead, judging from the blood running down her face. She felt pain race through her every time she moved, knowing she’d been shot in the back and thigh. Thralls had gotten her on her stomach and neck as well. The wounds on her neck were bleeding a lot more than her others, but she was sure that if they’d hit a major artery she’d be dead already.
The trail of bioluminescant red blood didn’t help her hide very well, and soon she heard a shriek, and the thralls were upon her again. She gathered what Light she could to her and lashed out with the shortsword, slashing the first thrall that ran at her in the chest, and the one next to it in the arm, making it howl and retreat for a moment.
But thralls traveled in large packs, and it wasn’t long before arc-laced claws raked across her chest. She stifled a shout of pain, and summoned her Light to her, slamming into the thrall with void energy. It exploded in violet light, taking out those round it as well, and the Warlock ran.
She couldn’t keep this up for much longer.
