Maybe you noticed. Cloud Women’s Quarterly has been on hiatus. The reason is largely due to the fact that our main contributors have been too busy doing what we women must do.
We’ve been moving & shaking, planning, boycotting, protesting, writing, growing food and herbs, medicine making, publishing, some grooving, taking care of our loved ones, and generally keeping our families afloat. Doing all that while organizing as much as we can in the face of the disasters. This has become especially true since one of our worst nightmares became reality last January.
You remember? When that so-called businessman, bad reality show-host, poser, imposter, narcissist, racist, carpetbagger, and all but functionally illiterate man was sworn in as the 45th president of these United States of America. Since then he, advised by his many corporate minions, has ruled mainly by decree. He thinks he’s the King of the Empire. Has signed into law or done away with numerous, which are not, as he promised in campaign speeches, going to Make America Great Again. Mainly they are racist, homophobic, women-hating, nature and life-crushing, laws. Designed to take our civilization not only back to the worst of times but also serve to send us hurling at lightning speed to the end of the world as we’ve known it. Are we exaggerating? We wish we were. There is no reason to reiterate all the damage he’s already done in the short year he’s been in office – seems like an eternity already – but here are a few of the lowlights:
Executive Decrees:
Calls for ‘immediate construction’ of Mexico wall, probe into sanctuary cities and 5,000 more border guards.
Signs executive decree against Obamacare health care law.
Signed an order to undo Obama-era climate change regulations – decries Climate Change.
Travel decree - against Muslim immigration. Under his watch:
American women are having their rights stripped away:
-Title IX's application in college sexual-assault cases eased. -Republicans repeatedly attempt to defund Planned Parenthood. -Republicans pass a bill in the House that would ban abortion after 20 weeks, despite the fact that the great majority of late-term abortions are performed due to health concerns for the mother, the fetus, or both. -Proposed birth control opt-out in medical insurance policies provided by companies who have a religious or moral objection to it.
The Republican Tax Bill Passed.
FCC Rejects Net Neutrality.
LGBTQ protections are being rolled back.
The government's dismal hurricane-relief response in Puerto Rico.
And on and on...
We Cloud Women continue to be hopeful, as hope is a prayer we need in order to move ahead and continue to Resist!
