Repost @lunula_yogastudio Today is Women's Day in South Africa. It is a celebration of women everywhere, of all shapes, sizes, creeds, races, and ages. It is a tribute to the women who walked (literally and figuratively) for rights of all kinds; To those who had to pretend to be men to get ahead; To those who love sex, and those who were disempowered by men's belief around it; To those who were called names simply because they did not fit the boxes; To those women who support and uplift other women; To those who choose, and those who have no choice. - It is also a tribute to those men who stand by these women; Those who understand that just like we educate about drunk driving and don't # notalldrivers, we educate about men and don't # notallmen; Those men that are feminists and understand that feminism is a necessary battle, a rising up of women, not an emasculation of men; For those men who understand that the feminine divine lives in all of us and is to be explored and revered, rather than feared and supressed. - Lastly, it is a reminder that women are worthy, strong, and capable, but rarely safe in this world, in this country. Women's Day is also a tribute to those who have fallen at the violent hands of men. We have a responsibility to call out and stand up to those that hurt, murder (literally and figuratively), discredit, overpower, insult, or disempower women in any way. Don't shrug it off as a joke, a not your problem, or a # notallmen. Especially in South Africa, where racial tension and cultural differences are added to the gender inequalities.
