Before I go to bed, thought I'd share this: In the true Little Mermaid story, the mermaid princess never got to marry the Prince and ended up committing suicide instead. There are loads of tellings and retellings of fairy tales ("fairy tales for adult" is what they go by) but I remember this particularly dark and twisted take on the true Little Mermaid story written by Timothy Schaffert titled "The Mermaid in the Tree". I've read it a couple times and it still gives me chills. Honestly, it's one of my favorite short stories.
