Today a JSP friend and I went to Shinjuku for the first time just the two of us. It was definitely an adventure. We got to Ikebukuro fine. But then, we got on the wrong platform, which put us going on the Yamanote line backwards. That was cool though. We sat, talked about finding fashion styles that suit personalities, and people watched. Then, we arrived in Shinjuku Station, and wandering around for 20 minutes trying to find the correct east exit, which we discovered on the way back was actually extremely easy to find and should have taken about 3 minutes to get to. Went to H&M where I found a nice, soft, sleeveless top. Then went to GU where I got a sheer, white button-up. Then wandered and searched for Forever 21, which we eventually found. Got some sandals. They didn't have the shirts I saw online and wanted -n- And the shirts I liked in the store were not made for busty people. Moved on to Top Shop, where I sang along to Beyonce and Destiny's Child, as most of the clothes were not really my style and definitely not my budget. From there we just kind of wandered. We went in a few places, but didn't stay for long. We wanted tonkatsu, but since neither of are literate enough to read many signs, we ended up finding a burger place, but not before a probably Swedish model asked us for directions, which sucked since we didn't even know where we were. At the burger place, we had some deep talk about life, confidence, anxiety, and other things, which left me crying because I'm ridiculous and if I talk about things that stress me out, I get stressed out, and when I get stressed out I cry. After that, though, I was pretty energetic, we got to the station and to the correct train just fine, and had more fun conversation until we parted.
Other than our navigational mishaps, probably the most amusing thing was people on the street. My friend is Japanese American, so people see her and think that she's a native. This was very obvious when we weren't right next to each other and passed by people handing out ads and tissues. They passed them to her, and completely ignored me sometimes. As it got later, the touters got more and more fun though. The maybe hosts, maybe just touters for regular clubs were my favorite. Some of them were having a great time. They were laughing and joking and you wanted to take their tissues/ad just because they were so amusing. Had I been offered/taken tissues from every guy down one strip, I'd probably have 10-15 packs of them. There were some that were pretty creepy though. One guy spotted my friend and I and tried to come at us but was, thankfully, blocked by the crowd. He was trying to follow us for a few yards before he gave up.
While I did get a couple shirts today, I could still use some more. I'm going to stick to second hand stores though. I don't like to spend more than 1000 yen on a shirt, and I'd really prefer under 800, which is a really limiting price range in any country. I do need shoes for rainy weather still, but I can find some locally easily enough. I also want my wedge sandals =c Maybe my mom will be willing to send them to me.
