The Don Diaries

Dani leaves the farm early the next morning to make it back to work in the city. She's tired, she and Don were up rather late last night - and not for the usual reasons. They had some very serious talking to do.

Don checks the mail thoughtfully. Nestled between bills and adverts, there's a letter from a fan, someone who found love through one of his dating apps.

He may have spent the last few years focusing on being a good father to Matteo, but he used to be other things too, to other people. This letter only reinforces his decision.

Still, he needs support to make this work. A brief call to his parents later, there's only the last and biggest hurdle left.

Matteo.

When Matteo wakes up, his dad is in the living room, talking to their neighbour Cecilia. Matteo likes her, she's always so nice and she loves animals as much as he does.

After saying hi to him, however, Cecilia quickly excuses herself and goes outside.

His dad explains that they're going to move - to San Sequoia, not far from grandma and grandpa.

At first, Matteo is confused - what about the farm? And more importantly, what about the animals? What about Horsie, Billy, the chickens, even the spooky white ducks?

Don carefully explains that Cecilia has promised to take them all in. Her own horse could use the company and Horsie would have a new friend, and she's one of the only people Billy actually likes.

All the animals would be much happier on her farm than in the suburbs, and Matteo can always travel back and visit them.

Woofer looks up from his nap on the couch, but there's no reason to worry - he's obviously coming with them to San Sequoia!

Matteo is hesitant at first, but Don tells him about all the benefits of living in the suburbs - he would go to a bigger school and get so many new friends, his beloved grandparents would be nearby, and best of all, Dani would come and live with them.

To Don's great relief, Matteo is on board. The boys are leaving the farm and starting a new chapter!
