30 Days of Knitting
Day 9: What fiber or yarn do you love working with?
Ooh, I love a nice wool, for the feel of it, how it works up, the adjustability in blocking, and the environmental superiority. Sheep are good farming. I’d work with it all the time if it wasn’t so tricky to take care of, but it’s particularly lame as a gift. “Here, I made you this fine hand-crafted thing, for you to use! And I expect you to actually use it, or I’ll be disappointed :( But you can’t wash it roughly, or in hot water, or in the washing machine.” So it’s a burden, and/or the thing doesn’t really get used. So for practicality a wool blend is really best, and I don’t know how to reconcile the fact that it can neither biodegrade nor be recycled. Alas.
Actually I quite like cotton, too. Not so much more clothing, but shopping bags and such. It feels good and works well.
