under the cut for kat, lenny, chris & quinn:
- how can each character tell how the other feels? are they good at it?
- what do they do in silent moments? what do they think about?
- what is one moment when each character was vulnerable with the other? how did the other character handle the vulnerability?
uh, this got long . . .
how can each character tell how the other feels? are they good at it?
[lenny & kat]
for kat it’s almost a gift, she’s got those intrapersonal skills and can spot what’s wrong with lenny from a mile away. baffles him every time.
lenny’s kinda obtuse, kat typically has to spell it out for him, but he’s got good interpersonal skills so the two communicate their emotions well.
[chris & quinn]
um yes and no. like kat, chris has good people skills, but his conflict resolution skills are a work in progress. so he’ll know, but how he responds to it? quinn’s head is way up his ass. they do have the ability to talk about their emotions, but it takes a conscious effort.
what do they do in silent moments? what do they think about?
[lenny]
fidgets. sits uncomfortably. taps. everything on anything. lenny doesn’t do silence well, if he’s relaxing there’s always music or the tv on in the background. his thoughts tend to race about the situation or getting to the next thing when it’s silent.
[kat]
aimlessly thinking about others and asking herself questions. humming thoughtlessly to fill the silence, usually random notes but sometimes unconsciously parts of a song.
[chris]
silence is recharge and reflect time, usually about the day or what’s happening tomorrow. sometimes more critical questions, but that’s kinda quinn’s thing. this is when chris gets to enjoy some stillness.
[quinn]
he loves silence because it’s thinking time. what’s quinn thinking about? anything and everything. think first. talk later.
maybe too much thinking . . .
what is one moment when each character was vulnerable with the other? how did the other character handle the vulnerability?
[lenny & kat]
the two letting themselves love and be loved by the other is a significantly vulnerable moment for them. kat doesn't exactly have a great dating track record, and is a bit of a workaholic. lenny responds to her concerns sympathetically but kinda bluntly, and a touch too persistent. lenny has his own fears about their relationship, which color his response to kat's. kat doesn't exactly have a response, she sort of doesn't notice due to her own anxieties.
[chris & quinn]
quinn comes from a beautifully dysfunctional family, the first time he explains this dynamic to chris, chris is sympathetic but doesn't know how to respond. he struggles with wanting to fix something he can't, something that doesn't need to be fixed.
chris has his own family skeletons in the closet, sharing them with quinn is a moment where he chooses to be vulnerable. quinn sees this as a signifier of their relationship.
