They say that soulmates are not something that can be changed, that you would undoubtedly fall for the person that the universe assigned you and live a long happy life together. And yet, why did San feel like everything was going completely wrong when, a few years ago, he had to watch his best friend get in a car and leave town with his so-called soulmate? He should’ve been happy for him, right? Should’ve congratulated him, right?
He heaved a deep sigh in the silence of the night, eyes landing on the old picture of him and his best friend, Wooyoung, that was barely visible on the moonlit desk, feeling that familiar ache in his heart and the sting in his eyes. He brought his knees up and placed his chin on them, letting the tears run freely down his soft cheeks as his mind drifted away to all the bittersweet memories.
Him and Wooyoung grew up together, went through everything together, discovered the world and unraveled its secrets together. He could still remember the day he turned 16, when Wooyoung gently kissed his cheek and told him they would be together forever, no matter what. He could also remember how he had foolishly trusted him, put his hopes in him, let him have all of his heart, only to have him leave a few years later. He could still feel the excruciating pain of that time when Wooyoung had come over, excitedly ranting about how he had finally found his soulmate, telling him all about how they had already been on a date and held hands and how everything had been perfect. From then on everything started going downhill. Wooyoung would be constantly talking about his soulmate, reassuring San that he would soon find his too, and San had to sit through it all, fake his smiles and be a good friend. After a while they started drifting apart, mostly because of Wooyoung spending more and more time with his beloved, while San cried himself to sleep almost every night, not being brave enough to confront his friend about the issues they were obviously facing. By the time Wooyoung decided to leave town with his soulmate, they were already acting like strangers and San thought it would be easy to forget him, but, oh, he was wrong.
There he was, 2 years later, still crying in the middle of the night, not able to let it go. He tried so hard to find somebody to replace him, to make him feel again, to make him happy again. He gave up quite fast, coming to the conclusion that he probably didn’t have a soulmate, or if he ever did have one, then they were obviously long gone.
He slowly wiped off the tears and put his earphones on, deciding that music would help him calm down and, eventually, fall asleep. After a few minutes of listening to old sappy love songs, he could already feel his eyelids getting heavier as his tired body finally relaxed, giving in to the sweet bliss of sleep.
The next morning he woke up with a major headache, took some pills for it and made a half assed attempt at cooking breakfast, deciding to give it up in the end and just go grab brunch at a place nearby. He put on some comfortable clothes, grabbed his keys and went out. He locked up and as soon as he turned around his eyes landed on a way too familiar car. It took him one too many seconds to figure it out, but as soon as he did he felt a multitude of feelings pass through him: shock, curiosity, disbelief, anger.
He looked to his left, only to find the owner of the car sitting in his old swing. He blinked a few times as they made eye contact, still not being able to believe what he was seeing, taking a few cautious steps back as Wooyoung got up and started slowly approaching him.
“Hello, Sannie…”, he said with a pained smile on his face, when he got close enough to be heard. San’s heart was breaking into a million pieces again just at the sound of his pretty voice, as he was staring at him, frozen in his place, still trying to figure out what exactly was going on.
“Woo… Wooyoung? Is this a dream? Is this some kind of sick joke?” San finally said through gritted teeth, still not knowing what to make of the situation.
Wooyoung seemed sad and resigned, but his eyes widened at San’s words as he quickly answered, voice slightly cracking in desperation.
“No, no, Sannie, I swear it’s not a joke or anything like that, I-… look, I know I have no right to be here and you have all the right to be confused, shocked, angry, you name it, but please, please hear me out. That’s all I ask of you Sannie, please hear me out.”
San took a moment to gather his thoughts and consider, as he looked at his best friend. He obviously looked more mature now, but San could still see the hopeful child that had once been there. He was so conflicted, as a big part of him told him to stay away, leave and never look back, but the other was whispering sweet words of better days and hope. He sighed as he rubbed his temples, already feeling the headache coming back. With one last look at his fidgeting friend he finally made up his mind.
“Okay, I’ll listen to what you have to say”, he said as he turned towards his door and unlocked it, opening it for Wooyoung, “but I really hope it’s worth it, Wooyoungie, I really do.”
He entered after him and made his way to the couch, sat down and motioned to his friend to do the same.
“You probably have a lot of questions right now, like why I am here, what happened to my… soulmate, and all that, so here we go…” Wooyoung said, voice wavering thinking back on it all. He told San everything about the sweet times and then about the bad ones, about the violence he went through and how hard it had been to finally let go, he told him all about it, both of them breaking down halfway through. They cried and they laughed, they shared beautiful memories of their sweet past, and painful ones form the few years they had been separated, and after an entire day of sharing stories and reconnecting, they found themselves hugging on the couch, finally finding their home again.
“Sannie?” Wooyoung asked, breaking the silence.
San hummed in acknowledgement, as he looked at his friend questioningly.
“Do you think we could grab some blankets and go stargazing on your roof?”
San smiled fondly. Wooyoung had always liked stargazing and it appears like that never changed.
“Yes, of course~” he said, grabbing his friend’s hand, as he got up and started heading upstairs.
That’s how a few minutes later they found themselves cuddling under the starry night, finally feeling at peace. And yet San’s mind was still full of questions and insecurities, thinking of how it all happened so fast. He decided on one more important question and turned to look at Wooyoung as he hesitantly whispered.
“Wooyoungie… So what now?”
That’s how he found said boy already staring at him, a fond look on his face as he answered simply.
The first time Wooyoung saw the mark on San’s neck he knew. He knew those fang marks, the knew the only person who snaps enough to bite someone. His eye twitched as he zoned in on the offending marks. Who touched him?
“Who touched you.” Wooyoung took a deep breath. He liked San, 100%. They had started talking genuinely and they got along very well. He didnt know what he felt for the other, but they were definitely friends, he knew that the mark that was on San’s neck. He walked up to San. “Sanie?” He waited for the other to respond.
San was Wooyoung’s best friend, even gaining the trust that came with it slowly. But Seonghwa...he currently wanted to clock him in the face. How dare he bite San? He could have poisoned him. He reached out carefully, stroking the mark on San’s neck. “Did Seonghwa hurt you?” The anger radiated off of Wooyoung in waves, spreading in the room like a tornado.
He wanted to dig his nails into Seonghwa’s- He shook his head rapidly to get the thoughts away. He was already a little annoyed, and he needed to talk with Seonghwa. “I'm going to talk to him…” He mumbled but a hand gripping his chin and turning him to face him cut him off and he looked into the others eyes. “I went past the limits, I deserved it.”
“That means nothing, he bit you.” Wooyoung clenched his free hand, blood slowly coming up. “Look at me Wooyoung.” He heard San whisper and both of their eyes went wide. “You’re letting me touch you/I’m touching you.” They both whispered, pausing in their movements before Wooyoung stroked the mark one more time. “I'm sorry I couldn't stop it in time to stop it from scarring.”
“He really made it a scar, he could've stopped it.” Wooyoung pulled away, a little petty, and San’s fingers brushed against his neck. “I'm going to make him apologize…” He heard San laugh softly and his body relaxed, spotting the dimples. “I promise it's ok, I deserved it.”
Wooyoung sighed but nodded. “Fine…” He murmured before he looked at the mark one more time. He will tell Yeosang about Seonghwa’s issue later. “Would you like to go get food with me?”
This is for @kyeosang :(( He wanted me to post it so here!
Seeing San shift for the first time made his mouth open slightly, before sitting down. Seeing the 5’8 boy shift into a small dragon. “Woah. Thats so cool!” He scooted back as he saw the fire come from San, eyes going hazy, memories running through his head.
The marks on his back burning as he got lost in his thoughts, memories of fire getting close, burning into his back and leaving scars that will last his whole life. The smell of burning flesh, the memory of feeling blinding white pain burning his back, causing muffled screams as tears blurred his vision. Slight shaking as he feels hands cupping his face, jerking back and crying out, back burning with the ghost feeling of fire burning.
“Make it stop!” He yelps, blindly reaching for the person in front of him, hands grabbing his as his vision went fuzzy. “Get it off! Get it off!” He yelps, squirming in his spot as he reaches for his shirt, gripping it and tugging on it. “It hurts!” Wooyoung feels the presence of Seonghwa who bends down and lifts his shirt up and off and the burning stops, a cool breeze on his back.
His vision clears and he locks eyes with San who is a few steps back, eyes filled with guilt and slight confusion before his head tilts back and hes met with Seonghwa’s slightly knowing look. “Are you ok?” He nods and gets up before reaching for San who meets his hands and grips his hands. “Are you sure your ok Youngie?”
He nods quietly before Seonghwa looks at his back and sighs. “Why did you tell him.” Wooyoung tenses before he presses his face against San’s collarbone. “Its not pretty…” He mumbles and he feels Seonghwas hands on his back, close to the scars and relaxes, the ghost heat melting away with the others naturally cold hands. “Shouldnt you tell him?” Wooyoung bites his lip, thinking about the scars before looking up at San. “You’ve seen it havent you?”
San nods reluctantly. “But only a glimpse… When i was waiting for you to finish showering...i dont think you noticed i was in the room…” Wooyoung nods slowly before he turns around slowly and bites his lip at the muffled gasp and leans into Seonghwa who didnt move from his spot, his hands still placed next to the marks.
He wished he could disappear, he goes for hiding his face in Seonghwa’s chest, gripping his shirt. He taps on Seonghwa, letting him know that he could tell the story, himself still a little out of it. It’s the most he could do, let San see something so ugly that graces his skin, something so hideous scaring his skin and leaving his skin with something akin to small wings across his shoulder blades.
“They look like angel wings.” Wooyoung choked out a forced laugh. “Wings? Angel wings?” He pulled away, looking up at the sky.
“There is no such thing as angels, no such thing as heaven or guardian angels. It’s all myths. Things made up by man to make the world seem better. Something made to sound so beautiful when it will never exist, molded into something we think they would look like if they existed.”
“No angels exist, especially guardian angels. None of this would have happened if so. Are we deemed not worthy?” He pulls away, eyes locked on the sky. “Somehing so rare yet so beautiful that we are seen as something to be treasured, or something like an experiment? Something so sought after that we are tourtured so others can forcefully try to make more of us? Hybrids or shifters? Are we demons? So much as we dont deserve luck or fate? Was it our destiny to end up like this? Scars and memories, the pain that comes along? The night terrors that keep us awake?”
He looks down then towards San, who looks so down ridden that Wooyoung almost feels bad. He almost hears the sound of San’s heart ache. “But your my angel.” Wooyoung smiles slightly when San speaks.
“You’re my angel Woo, since the moment i saw you, when you said youd take me away, make me feel safe and protected. You took my heart the moment you gently held my hand and sat me on my bed, told me...explained how you felt because you didnt know the feeling. But i'm sure you held it as soon as you smiled at me so honestly, so genuinely that your face scrunched up adorably.”
“When Yeosang told me that hes never seen you so happy before then when you had saved me, when you let me in and trusted me with all your heart.” He took a breath, green eyes locking with lilac. “Maybe angels arent something people see, theyre are just the person infront of us, the ones we surround ourselves with and love unconditionally. You saved me, you’re my guardian angel. Yeosang saved you, Seonghwa saved you…you have angels around you Wooyoung, you just never noticed it.”
Wooyoung bites his lip as he shuffles closer, knowing Seonghwa left after San started talking. “You said im your angel, even though you know everything, you still think im an angel?” San smiled and nodded.
