Are any other nonbinary folks uncomfortable being called an "enby?" Like. I've seen some discussion about nb exclusively meaning nonblack and I'm all about avoiding appropriation ofc but can we stop promoting enby as the only other way to refer to nonbinary people? To me it sounds pretty infantilizing, which is a huge trend in the treatment of nonbinary people especially online. I'm sure it's not meant that way but when people almost exclusively use it when talking about how "enbies are all so cute and valid uwu" it begins to carry that connotation, and like. Nothing about my gender is ~cute~ or childish, nonbinary identity isn't all soft hair and sweater paws, plenty of grown-ass serious people are nonbinary and I just think we should be cautious of how we spread/apply terms. I know its not as cool but if you're avoiding using nb to mean nonbinary (as you should if black people are raising the issue) you can just type it out, especially if you don't know someone's preference about the word enby
Also like. Nonbinary isn't a noun it's an adjective that covers a lot of genders and expressions. People generally aren't "nonbinaries" theyre nonbinary people, as in people who experience gender in a nonbinary manner, so I find it a little weird that we're all getting lumped into the same category under a noun like that.
I'd love input from my nonbinary mutuals/followers, is this just a me thing or do other ppl also feel weird about this?
