Word It Out
You ever just get stuck on a word? Like maybe, you’re right in the middle of a conversation, and you’re trying to explain something really, really important and you have to use just the right adjective or it’s just going to make your brain explode. And it usually does. I think this bugs me the most because I really like words. Words make sense to me...like gravity makes sense to all of us—we might not all understand the science behind it, and even if you do, human understanding of science can only explain things up until a certain point until eventually, the answer to certain questions pertaining to our great universe becomes “because it is” or, “because it does,” some things just are—some things just make sense because they do. They have to, or else nothing makes sense. Words are how I make sense of things. Words can answer questions; words can express questions. Words can offer explanations. Words can express emotion and words can inspire imagination. Words can be comforting. I believe this is why we sometimes talk to ourselves. They say talking to yourself is a sign of genius, but answering yourself is a sign of insanity. What a fine line. For all those who walk that line, I feel you. As you stand in the mirror, and give yourself the pep talk you really need, or as you talk through a hypothetical scenario in your head and tell that mirror what you wish you could say to some actual, particular person, you’re providing yourself with some sense of release. You’re easing your mind and giving yourself some relief of all the thoughts that seem to overwhelm your brain sometimes. You’re working it out aloud because you need to. That’s what I like to do, word it out.
