Happy #wordsthatstickwednesday and #happyvalentinesday for those of you who are behind my timezone :) #wordsthatstick #magnetic #poetry #magneticpoetry #blackandwhiteaccount #love
You think it's cool to hate things. And it's not. It's boring. Talk about what you love and keep quiet about what you don't.
Elizabeth Olsen
I'm captivated by this quote. Society loves to talk about the things it hates. Why? I'm not sure. My hunch is that it's a way of tip toeing around our insecurities.
For example, I loved the Fifty Shades of Grey series. I know that there's much controversy surrounding the books, like the quality of writing and the glorification of abusive relationships. As a result, I tend to pick apart the book when I'm talking with those who have also read it. Consequently, they may perceive me as someone who loves fine literature, rather than what I really do enjoy reading - love stories, smutty or not (I'm a closet hopeless romantic).
It's almost as if it's easier to bond with someone over the things we passionately disagree with rather than the things that are close to our hearts. In my opinion, we shouldn't let the things we stand against be the only thing that defines us.
