Still going strong! I have been working on this case intensively for 3 days and I'm nothing even close to being done lol. At least it is always interesting to work on fake cases, learning a lot by practicing.

I really wish we would have more information about the work laws and shift systems of Star Trek. I mean, this is supposed to be a better future. But while the shows don't give much information (except for three shifts vs four on Voyager, meaning that work time is between 6 and 8 hours, maybe with breaks?) and the novels tend to disagree with each other, in most fanfics the system is way worse than in our society today. (Or at least the one I live in where a normal weekly work time is between 35 and 40 hours with mandatory breaks and legally at least 23 days of holiday plus weekends or rest days after a specific number of work days all written down in the law.)

So while I know that for example the US is less strict with this and has not as good a social system taking care of their workers and their work-life balance, to me what people write for Star Trek seems to be even worse.

Okay, sure, red alert or being the captain might be exceptions. Leading personnel usually has to be a bit more flexible and the law gets fuzzy when it comes to them. But Kirk really not having time for enough sleep because he has to do reports in his free time and isn't allowed to do them during actual work time?

I really wish, Paramount or the Roddenberry family would finally make a little statement of how they picture work in the utopian future.

Or is there any Canon information that I missed?
