Things are just hard now in my workplace, it feels like everything seems to easily provoke me. The boss who likes to compare each other makes it very difficult for me to enjoy my work. Everyday seems like a competition, now I feel like I’m about to give up. But the things is, I don’t want to give up just because the boss creates such a toxic environment, especially I’m actually already part of the politics. And I like my job, I can grow myself, I can get the knowledge I need to have my own business, I can actually help people with their business. It clicks everything, but not the environment. Just to make sure that I won’t wither just because of the toxic environment, I will have my mantra to stay sane:
1. Don’t get provoked by the competitive situation created by the boss. The only competition that you have is only with yourself. And so far, you’re doing great.
2. It’s natural to have flaws and feel like to get beaten up because of the heavy work load. It’s only temporary, because you’ve seen it yourself, there are times when things are not that heavy.
3. Since the competition that you have is only with yourself, it’s okay to get happy from the others achievement and you can learn from their achievement as well, wow sounds like a toxic positivity. I know it’s difficult to control the emotion of feeling beaten up because I don’t get the same spotlight and somehow I feel inferior and feel like I don’t deserve what I got. It’s okay, it’s okay. But remember the mantra: You are your own competitors, as long you’re growing, you’re doing fine
4. When we talk about personal growth, the competition can be very much abroad, not only in the work life, but also about personal life. It’s very normal you only focus on what’s been bothering you. But take a moment and look around, how far you’ve gone from your starting point. You’re doing great.
5. Take a moment to breathe and rest is very humane, don’t feel bad about that. Once you get enough rest, you’ll be able to beat up yourself (again, and then to a certain point you’ll need a good rest again)
6. You give up when you see it brings no benefit whatsoever to your personal growth anymore. Then it’s time to move on. So far, I see that myself get challenged and grow a bit by bit. You still can find some kind of accomplishment from here.
7. For god sake, you’re working by also arranging one of the most important moment of your life, it’s really okay you can’t give your best to every aspect of your life at the same moment. Chill, chill. You’re not a demi-god.
8. You also need to maintain your expectation to yourself. You’re still a mere human who eats rice, noodles, and spaghetti sometimes.
Remember your mantra. Amen.
