So years ago I worked fast food, and I have plenty of stories from it, but one that I tell a lot is the time was when I had a lady come to the counter and order a cheeseburger, no cheese. Now at this place the difference between a cheeseburger and a hamburger was about 60 cents and a slice of cheese. I kindly try to explain that to this lady, because I was young and dumb and still thought most people were smart, but the lady was insistent: cheeseburger, no cheese. So I try to do the next nice thing I can do, which is just smile and nod while I slyly enter a hamburger into the register. The lady may not have had working ears but she definitely had working eyes, because she saw on her side what I had done and said "Not a hamburger, I want a cheeseburger, no cheese!" I again tried to tell this lady I was trying to save her money, but she was adamant, so at this point I gave up and rang up what she wanted. My shift manager saw what I put in the system and she immediately came up to me (lady hadn't even walked away from the counter yet) and asked why I hadn't just rung in a hamburger. On cue, the lady responds with "No! Cheeseburger, no cheese!" My manager is silent for a beat, then responds , "One Cheeseburger, no cheese coming right up!"
