Assassin’s Creed Origins Bayek faces Apep Apep is the world-encircling serpent that lurks in the Underworld and wreaks chaos therein, and within the Duat. At sunset each day, Ra’s solar barge crosses the western horizon and sails on the primeval waters where Apep attacks his solar barge to try to swallow Ra, and the two do battle for the remainder of Ra’s journey through the Underworld. When Ra’s solar barge reaches the end of the Underworld, Apep is defeated and Ra brings light to the world once again. The same process repeats itself every day. In addition to lurking in the Underworld, Apep is believed to literally slither about in the tunnels of the subterranean world beneath the Rostau (Giza) plateau, and his movements are the cause of earthquakes, and other calamites brought by the earth. Apep uses his entrancing gaze with his glowing eyes to hypnotize and blind Ra, and Ra uses a variety of instruments in his aid to defeat the serpent - his bow of light, and the god Seth. It is said by some that Apep was born of Ra’s umbilical cord that connected him to his mother, Neith - making Ra and Apep brothers, and their mother Neith.
