"In the still of the night..." 18" x 24" charcoal Commission This piece was extremely fun & special for me to make. It is a commission for a friend, tree advocate & arborist, & soon to be father. @expedition_old_growth & I enjoy each other when our paths cross, but believe trees are what connects us now after this piece. Damien loves trees more than anyone I've met, & it is a really cool thing to hear him share something about a tree while he is laughing & enjoying life. When this piece was started a favorite tree of mine came to the end of its life called "Big Tree" near Mt Adams, & ponderosa pine thought to be close to 500 years old, & over 200 ft tall. I wasn't sad to hear about this, it just made me think about how much that tree fought to survive. When chatting with Damien later that day I found out he also measured La Pine Giant, the largest Ponderosa Pine in the PNW. Go figure.
