Excerpt from Gold and Glass: A History of Danaean Art, 500 AS to Present by S. Deverro:

During [Jora] Zelimir's time as a court artist, he produced a number of smaller pieces depicting the events of high society that didn't demand all his tools. The image above is by far the best-known of his court vignettes--a spontaneous portrait of General Berenice Catorian and Lady Aja Renaud at the imperial New Year's ball of 1096, drawn in ink and gold paint. It only gained widespread attention after 1105, once their affair--and their roles as influential turncoats in the revolution that began five years before--came to public light. The image was popularly labeled "The Toast" and reproduced, and it soon became a cultural symbol for generations to come.

"The Toast" may have taken years to gain notability, but Zelimir had apparent reason to remember it. His personal diary alleges that soon after the sketch was finished, the General made a crude innuendo involving cannons which resulted in Lady Renaud snorting wine out of her nose.

so i made a species (probs closed) i like to call jelly people

and i accidentally got super detailedo n their biology because i have a tendency to run away with little things like that on worldbuilding

SO jelly bio under the cut

firstly they are made up of 4 different types of specialized tissue: bone (not the same material as our bones but similar function in some respects), hair (DONT ASK WHY THEY HAVE HAIR IT JUST LOOKS BETTER), body (smooshy jelly stuff that digests food and takes in air) and eyes (WEIRD AS FUCK COMPOSITION)

and the most important thing going on with their body is this type of magic. the bones are a special material that sort of conducts the magic, their brains are this really interesting arrangement of little bone bits that make particular pathways for the magic. the magic keeps the jelly body together and in the shape they need it to be, and also allows various things to move more easily through their body.

if you break their bones the affected area of the body will lose its shape, they need to put a cast around it until the bone heals.

their eyes are usually in the head area but can appear elsewhere occasionally, there are usually two but there are still outliers there as well. they can be damaged relatively easy compared to their other body parts and can be retracted into the body tissue of the head.

since their body is close to see-through it doesn't entirely block their vision but their eyes need to be exposed to air anyway.

their 'ribcage' (looks like one, anyway, from afar) can open up into two parts and break up food to make it easier to digest. they can absorb food from anywhere in their body but they do have a mouth as making new holes in their body can be tiring.

bones are slightly translucent and pale, sometimes glow a bit depending on the energy level, and have a crystalline structure. they are strong but somewhat brittle. they are very light.

body jelly is usually clear with a slight tint, not perfectly clear because of various particles floating around in there (like mostly-digested food) and the natural slight coloration of the cells. the body jelly around the head tends to be slightly darker in color.

their eyes are usually pale and have a sort of grainy iridescent look to them. they are also perfectly round.

hair is hair YOU DONT ASK ABOUT THE HAIR

they can't use their magic outside of their bodies without tools (which they connect directly to their bones its really cool).

they are non-confrontational and usually pleasant (beyond the one i have as an OC lmao her names minnie and she is a horrible person).

also they can fit through any space through which their skeleton can fit, and they can fold up parts of their skeleton into smaller spaces than you'd think, especially the hips and ribs. even the skull can compress a little bit, although their brains are very delicate.

a note about minnie: her gloves aren't normal. they are permanently connected to her skeleton, permanently connected to her magic, and they are not exactly healthy, as they take too much of her energy and can strain her a lot. as a result she is a bit smaller than most of her kind and tends towards being sickly. still doesn't stop her from punching stuff though. she is pretty much the only of her species that can punch things, since getting punched by most of them would be like getting punched by, well, jelly people.

average heights range from 6 feet to 7 or even 8 occasionally. (minnie is like 5'11)
