it was just another day in new york when disaster struck but then again - that’s always how it seemed to happen nowadays. he was on a field trip to a museum when literal aliens came down in search of the reality stones but as far as they knew, that threat was neutralized in wakanda. and for a little bit, it was. sure, the avengers were still remaining vigilant because knowing that there’s something more out there but things were normal. he was on patrol, scooping up kittens from trees (seriously, when will cats ever learn that climbing trees is bad?) and helping the elderly get to the other side of the road in one piece. they had returned back to their norm, the sky wasn’t falling down on them anytime soon.
or at least, that’s what peter had thought.
he had just assisted in the pursuit of an armed robber of a little ma and pa shop when peter got the sense of something strange. the hair on his arms stood up and caught his attention, something wasn’t right. but the bustling streets in times square didn’t seem phased by it, so maybe it was just all in his head? his spider senses had been a bit on the fritz ever since he returned from space, maybe it was just another one of those moments. it was hard to say but he didn’t get too much time to process that train of thought before a strong rumble overtook the streets and the sky was filled with a bright emerald green hue.
quick to react, peter got the pedestrians out of the way of moving vehicles, trying to avoid as much casualty as humanly possible. he ushered people from their cars, doing his best to just try and find some safety for them amongst all of the chaos that unfolded in the matter of seconds. there was screaming, people were rushing around and the once peaceful new york afternoon turned into something else entirely. he caught sight of a tree beginning to fall over and he sprung into action, webbing the tree with a faint thwip until he could get under it and set it out of the way so that something like that wouldn’t happen again.
his eyes landed on the person who could’ve been potentially flattened by this tree, the rumbling still present but not as severe. “are you alright?” he asked the person, taking a few steps closer to them.
