okay good, I was just a little worried that with some of your posts you were headed that direction.
I get angry because so many people use the “but it’s Eurocentric!” argument when what they mean is “but I don’t want brown people here!” as though there haven’t been people of color in Europe for millennia. And when I get racist responses that use Eurocentrism as the only defense for why they don’t like a colorblind cast or a broadening of the visual aesthetic, I get nervous, because “but it’s not AUTHENTIC!” is so often a rallying cry that means “WHITE PEOPLE ONLY!”
Not everyone will like a more global, less focused on one region of Europe adaptation of Lord of the Rings, and that’s okay. People who don’t like it aren’t automatically racist. I just get thorny when so many people respond to nonwhite fans saying things like “I wish I felt more included here” or “this is an iconic and globally influential story that I love but also doesn’t seem to want me for an audience” with “but it’s a mythology for England!”
I want fandom to analyze its kneejerk reaction to this. I want people who are bothered to examine themselves and really look at why. And I don’t mean people who think it’s unfaithful to Tolkien’s vision I mean people who get offended at the idea that a hobbit could be brown. I see a lot of those people. I don’t like them in my fandom.

same but I figure if you decided all beforehand that this was an AU a la SoM and maybe even purposefully made things different (more magic?) it would work out well
true! that might be best
but also like. I do kind of want the endless fighting over whether or not we can count on The Lost Road as a reliable gauge of human technology at its height, etc? also the bickering about songs of power or osanwë-kenta
