Worm liveblog Part 1

So, first time doing a liveblog. Let's see how this goes. Don't expect anything particularly analytical from me.

I decided that yes, I am going to read Worm, the web novel. For the sake of transparency, I have been spoiled on some aspects of the world building, like how people get superpowers, parts of the ending and something about world destroying kajiu? I'm somewhat unclear on that last point.

I can not make any guarantees that I will actually finish this or that you will get regular updates.

I decided to do this liveblog when I got to Chapter 6, so the first part of this is just my impressions so far.

Warning: Mention of bullying

Ark 1.1-5

Okay, I know Worm has like a bazillion trigger warnings, but has anyone considered making it one more and adding 'Uncomfortably accurate description of bullying '? Because what Taylor is going through here, the loneliness, the social ostracizing, the way nobody helps you? That is for me a way better description of bullying than any shoving in hallways or dunks in the toilet is. It is also pretty much how I felt at some points in school. Except that I can't control bugs and if I could I would use that to 1) get rich 2) make every etymologist love me and 3) possible send bugs stealthily into the hair of bullys so I can get away. This entirely depnds on when we are talking about.

That being said, Taylor's power is pretty cool and I think it could have a lot of potential if properly utilized. I like how she uses the spiders to create her costume and all the logistics about it, like that the spiders are territorial. She is also pretty clever about the fight with Lung and knows to retreat.

Speaking of, the fight with Lung was definitely something and I can see why the heroes would struggle with him. You have to essentially take him by surprise to have a chance and you have to end it really fast. Also, the fire is a really bad match up for Taylor.

Honestly, I think it's probably a good idea that the gang mistook Taylor for a Villain. There is no way she can take them out right now.

continuing on my taylor/brian enjoyer trend and how their relationship is one of utility i think it’s important for brian that he first reaches out to taylor in a romantic capacity when she is trying to help him and take care of him. i think he starts addressing his maybe-feelings for her because she’s started to play a function in his life that he deems Girlfriend Stuff. because obviously relying on his friends and team would make him weak. guys don’t do that. and he’s their leader! but he literally cannot do this anymore without support (he’s weak he’s weak he’s weak) so maybe if he and taylor were together then it would be more appropriate for him to be vulnerable and take a break. and this is not to imply that brian is using taylor in any malicious capacity or that he doesn’t genuinely like her, just that he looked at her went “i could trust her to take some of the burden” then “oh shit oh fuck i’d be a pussy if i let myself rely on a teammate and guys aren’t supposed to talk like that anyways” to “but it IS okay for guys to open up with their girlfriends……”

Interlude 25: Mae Liveblogs Worm [1]

yes, I'm starting my liveblog eight months late with interlude 25. don't @ me.

anyways I Love Riley Grace Davis And Am So Normal About Her. seeing contessa puncture her so thoroughly with only words (ptv is overpowered af but we been knew) and getting to read about how she deteriorates is amazing. girlie is still too bonesaw to just burn the entire pocket dimension but now she's too much riley to go back to pretending she's not a broken thing who wishes to be more than this.

then there's the technical aspects of the chapter, the details of her creations and how she handled the memory implanting. that shit was cool af! everything about blasto made me want to throw up but was, unfortunately, still cool from that perspective.

also riley calling grey boy lil brother and kissing his cheeks was highkey adorable but in, like, a horrifying way. so sweet! set it all on fire immediately.

anyways tune in next whenever for another post where I actually read this fucking story!
