Oooooo could we get a snippet of WIP#4 pretty please???
Absolutely! Hope you like it!
Unfortunately for them, they wound up in the infirmary on a somewhat frequent basis, so Annie had gotten to know them over the last couple of years as Jack and Mac. MacAndJack. It was often said as if there were one person, and they might as well be if one or both of them were hurt.
She’d once watched Jack, bleeding out from a GSW to the thigh, stand on one leg in order to keep one hand on Mac’s shoulder while the younger man was treated for chemical burns to his face, which had caused his eyes to swell shut. On the flip side, she’d watched MacGyver sway, while sitting on the end of Jack’s gurney, with a severe concussion, still dripping blood from a hastily wrapped head wound, at the same time that Jack was treated for a separated and dislocated shoulder. Mac’s hand had clutched Jack’s ankle, making sure they remained together for the duration, and, she assumed, to offer comfort.
The shit really hit the fan if one woke up from unconsciousness, either injury-induced or medicated or natural sleep, without the other nearby. The infirmary had been redesigned a year or so ago, and there was now one room in the back corner with space for two beds and all the potentially necessary medical equipment. The medical staff secretly called it MacAndJack’s Room.
The phone rang, startling Annie out of her thoughts. She grabbed it quickly and answered, “Phoenix Foundation Medical.”
“Annie?” Jack Dalton’s relieved voice came through the receiver.
“Hey Jack,” she greeted. “Is everything okay?”
That put her on high alert. If Jack was the one making the call, then it was probably Mac that was about to become her patient. “Okay, tell me more.”
“Mac’s been sick since yesterday, I think. Maybe the day before. His temp is up to 103.1°, and he hasn’t been able to keep any food or liquids down for the last few hours.”
