Color Guard Rant
before i begin, i wanted to say that a lot of what im about to say is coming from the mouth of my friend Caitlin (if your reading this Caitlin...hi!!) because i didnt realize a lot of the shit that im gonna talk about until she said something to me.
ok. our instructor sucks...thats the main point of this story. shes really nice and really funny but as an instructor, shes horrible. all of our work is the same thing over and over again. its like behind the back, switch arms, NO TOSSES, and just simple stuff like that. OUR SHOW ENDS IN RIGHT SHOULDER FOR GODS SAKE!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?! i totally understand making the work a little easier for the newer members (which is a whole different rant in itself) but COME ON!!!! WE DO THE SAME MOVES 85,000 TIMES!!!! she is from Jersey Surf so you would think the work would be easy but no. not at all. middle schoolers could do the work she gives us and WERE 14-18 YEAR OLD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!!!
on top of that shit, she literally has no respect for us as performers, spinners, and people. i feel like she treats us like idiots. just because we cant do everything she expects us to be able to do doesnt mean you make the work simple, doesnt mean you yell at us when we get it wrong, DOESNT MEAN SHIT!!!
our old instructor gave us work that was challenging but enjoyable. after every run through she would take us aside and tell us what we need to improve on/what we did well. SHE RESPECTED US!!! i understand why she had to leave but i cant help but think what if she was still working with us. the people who really suck right now probably wouldnt suck that bad. she would show us work, go over it 50,000,000,000 times, teach the next set, go over that 50,000,000,000 times, then put the 2 together. our current instructor just teaches a set and expect us to remember it.
i just cant take the disrespect and the lack challenging work anymore. im just so angry. color guard is my favorite sport ive ever done and this season is just...horrible...
i apologize for this long rant but i needed to let out my anger in a non-harmful way...
