In August, I made my very own traveler's notebook--quilted edition!
I have been traveling for work a lot, and I thought it would be nice to have fresh paper for each trip without making a whole pamphlet or starting a new notebook about it. With the extra spine cords, I can store a folded paper itinerary or tickets, also. Using cloth instead of leather let me easily add pockets, so I also always had my passport, pen, pencil, and business cards with me.
I interfaced the inner layer of cloth with a stiff interfacing I had lying around (Decor Bond?), and the batting is Insul-Fleece simply because I, again, had it lying around. The outer layer is soft to the touch and nice to handle.
The spine cords holding the papers in are elastic. The buttons on the spine were my solution for holding the spine cords in place, and I would do it more neatly if I made this again (while hopefully less rushed). On a leather traveler's notebook, you'd just pass cord through holes in the spine, but I didn't have the supplies to install grommets, I didn't want raggedy-edged holes in my cloth, and I was too scared to attempt buttonholes with my sewing machine. :)
