What do you think about Iris? Because right now i am rereading War Storm and i dunno. I don't like her but i don't hate her either and is this normal reading behaviour, unable to decide what to feel about a particular character with 100 percent certainty? Or am i just being paranoid because i feel like Iris is just an okay character. I mean gooooood i dunno do i even have to like her
I totally get what you mean. Personally, I think Iris seems to be an interesting character when we see her from other people’s POV but turns out to be actually boring when she narrates the story herself. Her chapters bored me, and she was mainly the reason why it took me so long to finish reading WS.
WAR STORM SPOILERS BELOW
I think I’m disappointed in Iris mainly because I expected so much from her, and of course, it was my fault for having had such high expectations. I thought she would be this mysterious, amazing character that would end up being the fandom’s favorite. But no, she ended up being another Silver who believed Silvers like herself were superior, looked down on Reds, and even ordered to kill Red children for her own agenda. And no, it’s not even because she turned out to be another Silver villain that disappointed me; it was the fact that Iris knew what she was doing was wrong but did nothing about it, all because she was too busy trying to please her mother, her sister, and her gods. She was completely aware she was wrong, her mother was wrong, and killing the man responsible for her father’s death didn’t give her any sense of triumph, happiness, or even relief, but she chose to turn a blind eye and continue taking the same path over and over again. She didn’t change even in the end. There certainly was no character development or anything. (Of course, this might have been due to her late appearance in the series. There probably wasn’t enough time to do that.) Nevertheless, Iris’s character didn’t evoke any good feelings from me. I just hated her for the most part.
