I ran Karazhan dungeon tonight for the first time. It's SO beautiful! Oh and I also found this dead horse #midnight.
Luckily for the first time in years probably since the very very beginning of Cata before more drama shit went down on my old server of Darrowmere, I have finally found a great guild on Proudmoore. I’ve befriended a couple of people and they have even asked me to raid with them which is awesome. It’s still not as great as my old Darrowmere guild, but it’s definitely something. I started reflecting a bit with them about my experience in Wrath and with some awesome peeps back in the day....
I had just decided back in Wrath I think back in early 2010 that I wanted to shake things up and go on a new server and make another deathknight. I was still very much a noob as I just started very little only in 2009 but I still didn’t really know how to play etc as I never really met anyone in WoW that could teach me nor did I know where to look stuff up. At that point I had never taken part in dungeons let alone raids. I remember absolutely loving Wrath’s story alone, and the zones just absolutely spoke to me but I wanted something a little more. So I created my noob dk again and decided to let Blizz randomly suggest a server and a name...Darrowmere (server) and Madytha(character). Little did I know at the time how amazing of an adventure I was going to have.
I had no idea what I had walked myself into. It was March of 2010 and the server was going through one of it’s worst periods in its long history as it is one of the original servers brought in 2006. It was being converted to a PVE server from PVP, and the masses were flocking off with free realm transfers to other PVP servers. At the same time, there were many free transfers to Darrowmere and I’m pretty sure it was flagged as a “New Player” server too. There’s some YouTube video out there that gained quite a lot of popularity of guilds disbanding and players leaving it was quite funny. While the pvpers left, all of these new players flooded the server. Queues started popping up not long after I created my deathknight and everyone started hanging out in Stormwind. I still laugh about it to this day that Dalaran was totally empty like 10 months before Cata’s release date.
I was extremely happy and excited on this new server. I started making tons of friends in Stormwind just talking and chatting in Trade and in the city with random people. Everyone had campfires and just doing stupid shit late at night. I remember the Horde used to come and raid SW from time to time and it was great fun. That was where I met this Ally rogue chick (I can’t remember for the life of me what her name was) but she kind of introduced me to these two goofballs, Epidemic and Cedar who were in her guild. They seemed like a lot of fun. I got quite close with them and became a member of their raid progression guild called Nightfall. Oh the super de duper fun times we had.
Unfortunately, with all the new players coming in there were a ton of guilds. Guild drama had started brewing like nothing I still have never seen on any other server that I have been a part of (later I was told that that was a Wrath thing but still that was some really crazy shit). They were forming, breaking-up, reforming, than completely breaking off for good. Guild drama began privately, but quickly escalated to people fighting on trade chat. These top raiding guilds were having the worst of it as with all the noobs there weren’t any good raiding players to choose from and waiting around for hours for that last player to fill their raid team to start ICC.
With that, our guild blew up after only being in it for 2 months. A couple of us ended up becoming a part of another progression guild called Mythic, but that ended up going horribly awful too. Eventually, we server transferred off of Darrowmere to Proudmoore back in early 2011 after the server’s population backed off quite a bit and the drama was following us like a bad smell. As with any low pop server, everyone knows everyone which in our case had started to become a bad thing. I still remember tearing up when I logged into Mady on Proudmoore for the first time it just wasn’t the same. We never were able to create that same magic on Proudmoore that we did on Darrowmere. The others left long ago with Cedar even transferring off of Proudmoore. I’ve still tried and tried for almost 5 years now to find a guild that even had a glimmer of that fun and I have finally found it thankfully. That last day was basically the day the music died.
I was just reminiscing about the glory Wrath days and I completely re-stumbled upon this forum posting from 2011 from our raid leader.
Epidemic/Spica summed up the experience so well:
Here's to Darrow!
To the Horde I used to fight in SW in a dress, lmfao props to you Mady still won't shut up about that.
To the pugs who tried and failed on Marrowgar, least you were #!@%ing trying on a server that struggled on trash. Props to you guys, and to the mages who got suckered into Plague's blink-iceblock of death before Deathwhisper. Hahaha man where'd you come up with that?
Here's to Darrowmere, to our epic failures, to our terrible trolls, our new player for 2 years status, our 5v1 Wintergrasp, our wipes on Toravon, our wipes on Patchwerk, hell our wipes on felboars. To the guys who pug and don't give up, to the guys still here and making it work, to the guy with #!@%ing Chakra on in the AH. To the guys who vendored Saronite, to the one blacksmith on server with Ulduar and ToC patterns, to the guys who wiped on Gunship.
Heres to <Nightfall> and our 8 hour Naxx10 run, to the guys standing in void zones, all you bros who still die on frogger <3 To the hours of laughs we had in there, if you see Primaryshot ask him if he's awake. He probably doesn't remember being asleep through KT. Remember, we finally OWNED Putricide bitches.
Here's to getting Jaraxxus as the weekly and knowing we wont be getting our frosties. To finally downing Onyxia with 2 guys left alive, to having to kill guards in WG to rank up cause there was no horde. To Susanexpress, who doesn't even bother spamming on Darrow anymore. To the guild drama and break ups, mergers, and break ups, like high school again.
Here's to being ranked last on WoWProgress, before those posers in Gundrak too it. We'll always be worst in our hearts guys, never stop believing. Here's to a totally empty Dalaran at 8pm saturday server, a year before Cataclysm.
Here's to the hunters who don't give a fuck, to the noobs buying "weapon glows", and to the guy who still posts Savory Deviate Delight at 1000g. To all those that matter, much <3. Keep Archmage Vargoth company for me. Be sure to remind Sarth of his proper place as a free honor kill and vending machine twice a day, and don't worry Plague I won't ever let Cedar forget how much you love her voice on vent.
Aethel, don't forget to let melee know the importance of stacking spirit, if you guys see Mal let him know to pick a #!@%ing main and stick with it I can't keep track of all his alts. Everyone else, keep up the good fight and remember: If at first you wipe on trash, blame Mady and drop group. We all know it's her fault anyway. Goddamn DKs. Hit her up if you miss me too much to stand
It's been fun guys
I unfortunately ended up getting a lot of whispers about this lol, but I left shortly anyhow. A toast to Nightfall and the all of the amazing Wrath days that WoW players had experienced at the time. Wow will never be that good again, but I will never forget how a small pop server ended being the best WoW time I ever had!
