Thinking about him...
Diane didn’t really know where she was going, dressed up this nice. She wore a salvaged red ballgown, cut like a mermaid dress to hug the curves, thin layers of tulle and gossamer fabric soft as down beneath her fingers as if the dress had just been made. It may not have been new, but it was new to her, and quite the surprise when the dress was thrust upon her by Rosala.
The two women really didn’t have much in common, other than undeath and their sense of style, but she was interested in the dress she had picked out. Of course she tried it on. And once it was on, Rosala had burst in, snatched her hand up in her grasp and began leading her through the brush of Silverpine to... someplace.
She had been hiding here with her nephew for sometime after Darkshore. The battle was far from over, but she didn’t plan to stick around to see the results.
“Can I ask where exactly we’re going?” She asked, using her free hand to try and lift the hem of the old dress up, but it was already full of twigs, dead leaves and discoloration.
“It’s a surprise!” Rosala squeaked excitedly.
Was she going to a surprise party? Was this another masquerade ball or get-together amid the chaos that was currently transpiring to lift the spirits? She didn’t know why she had to get so dressed up, unless this was some attempt to make her feel better about recent events.
“Seriously Rosala, I at least want to be-“
Rosala stops, because they have reached a clearing.
“Prepared...”
Standing in the clearing are three people. Ardelle, dressed in her flowing red priestess robes, halo radiant as it sits on her head. A death knight, not unlike Rosala, deep blue armor encasing his body. The forest floor froze at his feet, as if he were a living blizzard.
But the third, she felt his gaze like the force of the Light itself. Trevor Belmont wore his finest leathers, new Deathstalker gear that had no doubt been created just for important occasions, like the Dark Lady’s ascension to Warchief.
Or to a wedding.
“Belmont-“ She hissed, Rosala dropping her hand to allow her to step forward. The grass crunched softly between her bare feet.
“You’d be a terrible rogue. Poor Yorick and you had the same problem.” He raspes out a laugh.
“What is this?” Everyone else has yet to say a word. It seems she would have to seek the answers for herself.
Instead of answering her, Belmont turns his gaze to the sky for a moment, yellowed sclera exploring the darkened cosmos before; “Do you remember how we met?”
“I- at the Forsaken High Command- years ago.” She answered.
“You told me I was crazy.”
“You were, battling all those worgen by yourself. Noble, but crazy. Absolutely asinine. I thought-“
“I was dead-“
“-But you just waltzed into Shadowfang Keep and I-“
“-thought it was a miracle.”
They were face-to-face now. He towered over her, but at the moment they might as well have been the same height. The rest of the world had melted away.
“Ask me what you want to ask.”
“Marry me.”
It all made sense now. The dress, Rosala’s excitement, Ardelle’s presence, this second death knight. Two witnesses were required after all. One of the bride. One for the groom.
“You came for me in Darkshore two separate times. You didn’t have to- all those blasted Kaldorei said I was dead.” He smirked at her, that humorous glint in his eyes.
“Well, as you say, tales of your demise were greatly exaggerated.” They were in each other’s arms now.
“Do you want to recite your vows-“ Ardelle finally spoke up, only for Diane to interrupt her; “Just marry us, ‘Delle.”
“Well.” Ardelle held up her hands, gesturing to the two of them, “Then by the power vested in me by the Kingdom of Quel’thalas, Belore, and The Radiant Light, I pronounce you man and wife.”
“You may now kiss the bride!”
The rites completed, their embrace tightened. They kissed. It was a macabre sort of affair, marriage in a dead kingdom, in decaying vestments between two dead people.
She wouldn’t have it any other way.
Special thanks to @thescrubsloth, for letting Rosala play bridesmaid and witness for Diane! And a mention for @zaennicus, who came with his adopted mom to be witness as well!
