Working in a coffee shop was not his job of choice. Working with people wasn't something he greatly enjoyed. You never knew what you were gonna get with the bastards. They could be friendly, in a bad mood, and just plain rude.
Not excluding himself, of course.
Jack was a rather snarky soul. He was often making fun of something--or someone, his answer to everything was a sarcastic one, and he could be very pessimistic....Okay he was pessimistic. Good things didn't happen in this world without bad, and he was just extra prepared for the bad. It was a reoccurring theme in his life, so he adapted.
But since he worked with people he learned the skill of faking it. Even if your day was shit, you still had to smile for the crowd. He found himself feeling remorse for people who had to dress up in children's costumes and pretend you're enjoying getting beat with various toys.
"Jack! Break's over!" The manager, Merida, yelled at him. She was his longest friend, apart from Hiccup, and also his most annoying. She was a fiery red head, who always was angry about something. He didn't understand how the passive Hiccup could put up with someone so over bearing.
"Okay. Why do you always have to yell. Jeez calm the hell down, Mer." He rolled his eyes, and secured an apron around his waist. Merida opened her mouth to answer, but decided against it. She would not give him the satisfaction of an argument.
"Um could I get....Hm." A girl sat behind the menu--which wasn't that big--trying to figure out what she wanted. He really hated when people did that. She had at least five minutes to decide what she wanted, why was it so hard? Decaf, coffee, caramel, chocolate. It wasn't rocket science.
"Could I maybe suggest something?" He interjected, keeping that white dazzling smile on his face. Which often got him tips. How ironic? "No thanks." Sh shook her head, making her pigtails shake.
With a deep sigh, he closed his eyes. He was close to giving up on her. Hiccup was way better suited for these types of customers.
"Oh Punz, there you are. What do you think I should get?" The freckled faced girl looked up. Jack turned to face whoever she was referring to.
Her hair seemed to glow, as well as her eyes. Blonde contrasted against green in a symphony of colors. Freckles sprinkled across her cheeks, and danced whenever she smiled. Long tan legs stood out against light overall shorts, and her flat belly was visible due to the lilac crop top she wore under them.
He couldn't find it in him to look away.
"I would love green tea, she wants a Caramel Macchiato." Rapunzel replied, smiling brightly at the male. Her eyes scraped his form. Twinkling whenever she came across a tattoo or his dyed white hair, studying the deep flecks of blue in his irises.
Anna coughed deeply, pulling both adults out of their trances. Jack nodded, and cleared his throat. "Uh right. I'll be right back."
Jack couldn't get the constant static out of his brain. He felt fuzzy and discombobulated. He was moving, but purely on instinct. It was foreign and impossible to figure out.
That is, until he came closer to table nine. She was laughing at something Anna said, and he felt warm. The sound enveloping him, and smiling eyes that lit up the room. Was it possible for eyes to smile?
"I um, I've got your drinks." He stuttered out, almost kicking himself. Jackson Overland Frost was losing his confidence over some blonde's laugh?
"Thank you so much." Rapunzel turned to thank him, at the same time he bent down to set their drinks down. Her breath hitched as his face was all but a few centimeters apart from her face. Lips ghosted over hers as he pasted by her--taking his time.
"It was a pleasure." He whispered. Rapunzel gasped lightly as she vibrated from the deep baritone. She couldn't bring herself to say anything more.
As Jack walked back toward the shop, he found himself thinking of what it might have felt like to press his lips on her pink ones. He imagined she tasted of an animated version of Spring. He continued to watch her, glancing back every so often. Every single time there was a smile on her face, or her laugh warming the air.
"It was lovely." Rapunzel smiled, handing Hiccup money for her drinks, plus an added ti for him and Jack. Although Hiccup hadn't helped her at all. "Could you give half of that to the white haired guy? Tell him it was Enchanting to meet him."
With a shrug, Hiccup strolled in the kitchen. "Hey Jack? Some blonde and her friend left you this. She said it was enchanting to meet you." Blue eyes widened, "What she's gone? No!" He rushed back out, determining his best friend was lying.
"Yeah that tends to happen at closing. Customers go home." Hiccup said sarcastically. If anyone that Jack was snarky, they should meet his partner in crime.
Jack groaned loudly, pointing an accusing finger at Merida. "YOU, you evil red head, I told you I would miss her!" He shouted. She rolled her eyes, going to count the money. "Oh please. If you wanted to talk to her, you would've before. Don't blame me, ninny."
"First off, nobody says ninny anymore. Secondly, she's right Jack. Ever since Elsa, you've been scared to talk to anybody with a vagina besides Mer." The lanky brunette said, always feeling the need to add his commentary.
"Mer control your hoe." Hiccup's middle finger was quick to enter the air.
He couldn't stop thinking about her word choice. And how it perfectly described how he feel toward her. It felt like she cast a spell over him, only to be broken with her lips. He found himself counting freckles, studying eye color, and wishing of lips.
That was not regular Jack behavior, not even with Elsa. The girl he loved for the entirety of his childhood. Their relationship turned completely sour. Which is why he was terrified of feeling this for some blonde he didn't know...and might not ever see again.
Maybe that was the gut wrenching feeling he had. Not knowing whether or not he could see smiling eyes. Or blonde hair that bounced when she walked.
He sighed and continued to walk toward the bus stop, rain trickling down his face. It didn't bother him, he was used to being cold. But obviously the girl next to him, mumbling a string of words that should be muted, was slightly ticked off about the cold precipitation.
"Holy- Mother of God!" She yelled when her umbrella fell away. She tried to run for it, but her stamina could use some improving. Jack sighed and ran after it, just before it flew into the street.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" The girl shouted, running toward him.
He remembered that voice. Like honey, smooth and sweet.
"Rapunzel?" "White hair?" The blonde scrunched up her nose, fighting back a smile.
A grin took over Jack's face. "Jack. You'll have to know that for our date later."
I know couldn't be more late but some stuff happened, anyway please give it a read. (My first story on here, screaming)
