Biography:
Jo was only 5 the first time she sang a solo at a church pageant and got a standing ovation. Her parents soon realized she had the potential to make a living as a performer and began enrolling her in voice lessons and talent contests and booking her at events. At only 13, she was signed to a record label in Nashville, to a manager with less than savory intentions. When her parents died shortly after her 14th birthday, Jo’s manager became her guardian. Her career was beginning to rise and he used it to control and take advantage of her. Jo’s manager used her for his pleasure and financial gain, pimping her out to his rich friends and making her serve as a kind of helper at his poker games. He managed to hide her pregnancy at 16 and her older sister Cassidy took her son Cody to raise as her own as Jo’s career began to skyrocket and the road was no place for a baby.
Drugs and booze helped Jo mask her pain and shame, but she was very good at keeping up her good girl public face. After years of abuse, Jo had enough. She knew she couldn’t take it anymore and drugged Gunn’s nightly brandy. He began to choke and feel the effects of the lethal dose when he was on top of her. After managing to push his dead body off of her, Jo sobbed and crawled over to the bar, drinking more than her fair share of anything she could grab. Then she ran from the apartment and got into her car...a poor choice in her drunken state and she drove and drove and drove. A day later, she found herself crossing into the city limits of Wayward Rose accidentally and was soon captured. Being marked as a slave was a shock for Jo, who had been living a life of luxury for the past several years. She supposed it made sense, considering she’d taken a life even if she believed he had deserved it.
