The real VBS
That’s Vacation Bible School, to the non church-going folks. A seemingly easy task to orchestrate, except it isn’t. It really is school. Just with a single biblical idea that runs concurrently through it all -thematic if you will; with curriculum and projects and a summative assessment at the end that takes the shape of a musical performance.
Then you have the children. Of all ages and desires to be there. Pushing them through each station in an organized manner is a lot like wrangling cats, or maybe herding squirrels. While the adults teach and share knowledge, the older kids babysit and usher the little ones from room to room, hoping that the snack station is next. Four hours of pure torture, um, I mean happiness. For me, I’m in charge of the craft station, or rather, the “Home” room, and the first craft of the week includes... glitter.
