Next up is the Bronzeville Artists Lofts on 47th Street, which took the 3rd Place prize in the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design. The property was once the Borden's Dairy, built in 1906, and was being targeted for demolition. Now features a large first floor gallery space anchored by Gallery Guichard and live-work units on the upper floors. Most dramatic is the muscular diagonal timber beam system that defines the interior structure of the building. The project is a great addition to the ongoing revitalization of the 47th Street Corridor.
