if only it were as simple as killing. violence had come easy to kaz, as if it'd always been in his nature. ever since he'd met inej, she'd left him annoyed and frustrated that nothing was going as it usually did. but he couldn't change it with his fists like he did all other things. ❝ and certainly not with your aim. it's sloppy. you fail to follow through, as if you're afraid of the blade ever landing true. ❞ he nods at the target he'd set up, eager to change the subject, ❝ try again. ❞

he perches on the edge of the rooftop, scanning the abandoned warehouse ( why was it always an abandoned warehouse ?! ) that this specific rooftop gave a perfect view of. peter hums softly, ❝ it depends on the person ! you were just so inviting, y'know ! with your ... ❞ he glances over at her, ❝ welcoming glare and intimidating demeanor. not to mention the terrifyingly silent schtick. seriously how do you get that quiet ? ❞ it'd thrown him off the first time and the next time and every time after that. he could hear a pin drop from miles away but she could appear next to him and he'd be none the wiser. ❝ i've never met someone that screamed i'd love company more than you. ❞

KAZ CLUTCHES HIS SIDE WHERE THE KNIFE HAD SUNK IN and leans against the side of his bedroom wall, light-headed and his face pale. he'd lied to inej when she'd asked him if he was okay, it was meant to be a simple job. this shouldn't have happened. but he'd been distracted, staring at his wraith instead of trusting her to do her job. look where that got you, brekker. he fumbles with his jacket, peeling it off and undoing the buttons of his vest as best he can when his fingers are slick with blood.

❝ there wasn't time. ❞ he answers simply, he hadn't wanted her to worry. kaz finally wrestles his shirt off so that he can fully examine the wound. not good. it was swollen and irritated and it looked as though the blood had no intention of stopping. it'd been deeper than he thought. ❝ there's antiseptic in the cabinet behind my desk. bring it to me. ❞ he'd need to give himself stitches but he'd live, he had to.
