Happy Bi Visibility Day! Hope it’s been a good one. Here’s chibi Wren and Flora bc they’re bi and I love them <3
It’s Doodle Monday! I’m still working toward decent visual designs for the Heart of Lead cast, and I think I’m most satisfied with these gals so far. There will likely be more art (and polished art!) to come. These are just some recent doodles :D Left to right: Luanne (purple), Katarina (yellow), Wren (ochre). My book one darlings ♥️
Original FicFest Day 1- Character: Points of View
Introduction
Hi all! It’s Original Fiction Fest Day 1 over at @originalficfest, and that means Character Day. The characters of any work of fiction, specifically the heroes, are what make it live and breathe. As they adventure, fall in love, and suffer heartbreak, the reader learns to laugh and cry with them. Over the course of a novel or series, characters can take on the feeling of real life friends. Who’s to say that our fictional friends aren’t real or meaningful, if only between the pages of a book?
I already gave brief descriptions of each Heart of Lead character over here, so today I want to delve into some specifics. I’ll be getting into some details of Heart of Lead’s two viewpoint characters: its protagonist, Luanne Porter, and its deuteragonist, Wren Dorian.
POV Character- Luanne Porter
“My Leaden heart fated me to die. I knew this and had always known.”
Name: Luanne Bernadette Porter
Age: 18
Height: 5′5″
Species: Human
Heartmetal (if applicable): Lead
Appearance: pale blonde hair, grayish complexion, large gray eyes, petite, angular nose
Talents: reading, passing time, feeling empathy
Luanne is a well-spoken, bookish girl with a soft spot for cats and quiet library nooks. She doesn’t get the chance to make many friends, and so she strongly values the ones she has. She’s always stayed out of the way of her Goldenhearted family, never eager to make waves- but with the final summer of her life approaching and a mysterious inventor girl in town, that is liable to change.
POV Character- Wren Dorian
“I dealt in machines because humans were too damn difficult.”
Name: Wren Dorian
Age: 18
Height: 5′8″
Species: Human
Heartmetal (if applicable): N/A
Appearance: long curly chestnut hair, brown eyes, warm brown skin, somewhat muscular
Talents: creating mechanical gadgets, sarcasm, running, getting into trouble
Wren is a cynical, prodigiously intelligent girl without a home. From the moment of her mentor’s murder, she’s been on the run from the Queen and her terrifying cyborg underlings. Wren has always felt like an outcast, and she’s interested in self preservation above all. At least, she is, until she meets a certain Leadenhearted girl.

Which OC of yours is Chaotic Sloppy and which one is Neutral Confused?
Heyo! Thanks for the ask :D
Neutral Confused is probably Amos?? He lives in a constant state of “what” and his friends keep having big dramatic adventures
Wren’s living space would certainly say Chaotic Sloppy, but in terms of general being and life experience I would say Luis. (ilovehim)
For the OC thing, Darren once stole several hundred easter lilies from a corrupt florist
Heck, this is a good fact :D
Wren steals food sometimes. I mean, sure, a lot of the time she has to- but did you really need two whole chocolate cakes Wren?? Really???? The answer, of course, is yes
Heart of Lead Update 9/24/17
Yo! I finally finished chapter 17 of the first draft of Heart of Lead book two. It clocks in at 3,635 words, and the entire draft has reached 52,883. This chapter stands on its own pretty well, but I’m not sure if it’s contributing enough to the main plot, so... eh. I get caught up in side plots quite easily. Still, it flows well, and editing is a thing, so I’m not going to worry too much!
There’s not too much flashy description or dialogue in this chapter, but here is something thematically important and character-development-y for Sorrel:
“We don’t ask why, okay?” She didn’t sound angry. For once, her voice held no trace of passion: no amusement, no indignance, no emotion at all. She kicked at the ground with the toe of her boot. “The Queen tells us what to do, and we do it. That’s what we’re made for. All we’re supposed to be is obedient. If we ask why, we make a mess of everything.”
Also: Autumn vibes!!!!
When I turned around at last, the hall was mostly empty. Long shadows were spreading across the marble floor, and someone had lit up the candles arrayed along the walls.
More Autumn vibes:
A spray of early autumn leaves blew in, brushing against my hands, and the three figures in their traveling clothes went out and disappeared from view.
Spooky season is here:
Dmitrius and Cecelia stood in the doorframe, talking, a dark-clad pair with the same striking blue eyes.
Okay that’s all, lol. Hope everyone’s doing great today!
4, 5, 14 and 19 for any OC(s) of your choice?
Thank you for the ask! Soso very sorry this took such a long time to answer, dear me.
I’m going to answer these with different characters, since you left it open-ended!
4. Post a snippet from your writing in which another OC describes your OC.
Even in my worst moods, I couldn’t deny thatmy brother was dazzling. He looked similar to me, with his elegant features andPorter-signature ashy blond hair, but I’d never matched his shine. He practicallyglowed with a healthy Goldenheart sheen, of course, but his charm and sheergravity elevated his brightness to a level like the sun.
(From Heart of Lead draft three. Dale is a garbage human but he’s fun to write about, lmao. Also, I have surprisingly few paragraph-length descriptions of Heart of Lead characters? A lot of the details are worked in throughout.)
5. Describe your OC’s physical appearance.
Let’s talk about my son Calicoe, shall we? I’m slowly injecting Belladonnas information into tumblr before Nanowrimo, and he is one of the main characters. Coe is short, skinny, and freckly. His left eye is blue and his right is covered with an eye patch, with a handful of scars visible underneath it (explaining is sort of a spoiler, but iunno, if you’re interested I’ll probably tell you). Coe wears suspenders, and his clothes are quite messy most of the time. So is his hair, which is naturally a sandy brown color. He does dye it a lot, though, to make his physical form more conspicuous for safer dimension-hopping. It’s often hot pink.
14. What is one of your OC’s secrets?
Ooooh! Cool question. Most of my OCs have some kind of secret, especially the Belladonnas characters. Eirene’s secret is that she’s a runaway, and her parents are clerics despite the fact that she’s contracted to a demon. It’s not really a plot spoiler, but she’ll have to deal with it throughout the book.
19. Your OC’s life is a musical. What’s the title of their big show-stopping song?
Oh geez, titles. I guess if Wren had one, it would be something along the lines of Everything Goes Wrong (Again!). (I can’t title things ever. But I tried. *jazz hands*)
One of my ocs makes little automations
Nice! Wren makes automatons too (of nature stuff like trees and flowers), but this is supposed to be a semi-related fact so uh… Luanne loves to read and Nicolas can play the piano really well!
