Iâve gotten a few asks about Kara/Siobhan, and whether Siobhan really loved Kara and how Siobhanâs meanness differed from Lenaâs, so hereâs an excerpt of Karaâs backstory detailing the entirety of her and Adamâs relationship.Â
Itâs very straightforward and simple because it was technically for my eyes only, but I think it illustrates why Kara and Siobhan arenât a good match.
Adam Grant approached Kara at a bloc party. He made her laugh and introduced her to his friends, and itâs the first time Kara didnât feel lonely at NCU.
He was a considerate boyfriend. The kind with warm eyes and warmer hands. The kind that would drop by Karaâs dorm when she was having a bad day, armed with a box of doughnuts and her favorite movies. The kind that would accept coffee with a beaming smile no matter how tired he was after pulling an all-nighter.
Like Kara, Adam enjoyed kissing and they did it enough. And when Kara was reluctant to let things progress further than oral, he was understanding.
Kara spent her Thanksgiving break gushing all about Adam to anyone who would listen, and she only checked Siobhanâs various social media accounts on the rarest of occasions.
When Kara and Adam eventually had sex for the first time, it was admittedly a little awkward. But they took things slow and cuddled afterwards, so it wasnât terrible. In fact, it got better each time.
Two weeks before winter break, Kara received a call from someone unexpected, maybe even a little unwanted. But she excused herself and took the call anyway.
Siobhan was upset, having just been dumped by her boyfriendâa tall, handsome alpha whom Kara had very briefly Facebook-stalked only a few months prior. Then through all the cursing and tears, Siobhan told Kara that she missed her, and just like that, Kara felt her heart break open like a series of overwhelmed floodgates. And Siobhan wouldnât let her go until Kara admitted that she missed her too. They ended the call by making plans to catch up once they were both back at Midvale.
They met at their usual brunch place, greeted each other with a tentative hug, with Kara practically swooning at the familiar smell of Siobhanâs perfume. They ate and caught up, and Siobhan took the time to listen and ask questions more often than she would have when they were still together.
Throughout the meal, Siobhan touched Karaâs hand a total of five times, with no good excuse to speak of. Karaâs heart ached each time.
When they said their goodbyes, Siobhan held Kara a few seconds longer than appropriate, then placed a very chaste kiss at the corner of her mouth. The entire drive home, Kara kept her fingers pressed to the spot, maintaining the pressure, desperate to recreate the feeling of Siobhanâs lips against her skin.
That night, Kara broke up with Adam Grant over the phone without much explanation, and she let Siobhan tug her into bed the very next day. And it kept happeningâagain and again, all throughout breakâand they both let it.
âBe careful,â Alex told her once, when she caught Kara dressing up for yet another outing with Siobhan.
âWeâre using protection,â Kara said.
âThatâs not what I meant,â Alex returned with a sigh. âAnd you know it.â
She and Siobhan continued to remain in contact despite returning to their respective schools, and it really felt like it would work this time around.
During one of her shifts at the library, Kara saw Adam and offered an instinctive wave and smile, but he just walked past her without a word. It hurt. But not as much as it hurt when Siobhan found a new girlfriend and ceased communication altogether once more.
