Day 1 of Writeblr 75 Hard (Souls of Black Phase 1)
For a clue on what this is, see this post for more, but basically it's a daily challenge for writing to help with making progress :) I'll be working mainly on Souls of Black and cleaning up the chapters I have/spreading them out more for now. Then it'll be a 'phase 2' of sorts and just writing for it normally.
My rules for myself are:
Edit/Cleanup at least 1k words of SoB's current chapters a day
Switch/redecide where one chapter starts or ends at least once a day
Post the progress to tumblr every day :D
If I manage to hit both of the first 2 goals in a day, then I can work on oneshots for any project, or Call of the Void stuff
Progress for today is:
Cleanup Wordcount: Around 8k/74k
Chapter Break-Offs Decided: I decided the start and end points of 1 chapter; for the new Chapter 1
If your Wip(s) were adapted into a video game, what type of video game would it be ?You can make it simple or completely detailed.
I'll start.
My novel ,Tara, could be adapted into an indie game like Life is Strange, mystery and choices, and maybe Adeventure, which is narrative heavy.
Longer version: It would be an independent game, narrative heavy with themes of physiological horror with choices and boss fights and I know Stranger Things isn't a videogame or think of Silent Hill Other World for our characters, fully scripted and scary monsters. It would be scripted, heavily so almost like a mini movie's.Sci fi would also be a theme and some areas even a bit of survival horror.
(I am very into Horror Games but even I have to do research on its genres.(
Since one of my MCs mental health depletes with a bar over his head and you have to keep him from spiraling with hobbies, people and books. We would see a lot of cutscenes, long cinematics and running. And even a dual Pov, where we meet other characters apart from the main two. I weirdly imagine it to be 3rd person where you see our characters interact with others and their thoughts.
There would be mechanics were you're timed and have to fight beasts and even people who aren't human or even puzzles for finding stiff. Like hide, run , inspect.
A staple in the Scareuary horror writing challenge, the Coppe's Webbe has you randomly generate a word from this list (simply refresh the page to generate) and create a spooky web of stories, snippets, or even poems related to the word you've generated.
COPPE'S WEBBE SCHEDULE
February 1: Generate
We'll be generating our words and sharing them! You can also share any preliminary ideas that you have for creepy stories/snippets/etc to write based on those words.
February 2-7: Spin the Web!
Having trouble with your word and want a brainstorming buddy? Send your word in as an ask and I'll respond with 5 different spooky ideas to get you started.
February 7: Story Share
For those who are going to try and complete a story, drabble, poem, or any other kind of horror fiction piece by the end of this first week, the 7th is the day we'll share them! If you haven't written a full story but have a synopsis, you can share that, too.
This month, I want to give adequate time to feature each theme/event. That's why I've set date ranges. However, that does not mean that you have to do them at the time I will be featuring them.
In other words, even though I've scheduled some fun stuff for Coppe's Webbe from FEBRUARY 1st -> FEBRUARY 7th, you can take the whole month to do the challenge or decide to do it later on in the month.
Not quite sure how to proceed?
Check out this example from last year.
Send in an ask!
I will try to compile all Qs into a FAQ post for convenience for next year's Scareuary.
Want to be tagged on posts? Let me know!
I'll set up a tag list so you'll never miss any posts ^^ And remember! Use the #scareuary or #scareuary2025 tag so everyone can find your stuff!
I'm working on something new for this, and I'm so excited to be doing this! I don't really write on the weekend, so I started today, on day two of the challenge!
Day 2 of 42.
today: 2531
total: 2531
progress: 6%
I'm having a blast with this story so far! The words have come really easy, and for the first time in a while I find myself daydreaming about the story when I'm driving or in the shower. It's nice to get back into that!
Hey, I had a fun idea. Post a cover collage of other works that have had the biggest influence on something you’ve written or your current WiP. Tag ur friends if u want.
These are the 6 pieces of media that probably did the most to infect my brain with space fungus and force me to write The Last Girl Scout against my will.
Time for a little more of an official post now that my other post has floated around for a couple days!! The Summer Chaos Writing Challenge is a wonderful way for writers to let lose with their creative juices in a completely unhinged, practically unplanned story with random strangers equally unprepared!
Here’s how it works:
Due to the number of people interested there will be several groups/pairs of writers and you’ll be matched based on your answers to the Google form attached
Writers will be able to decide on themes, tropes, and a brief description of the main character as well as a title for the characters role ie villain, love interest, best friend etc.
WRITERS MUST NOT DISCUSS PLOT POINTS FOR THE STORY
Writers will have a rough schedule of about 2/3 days per person to write a scene/chapter before the next person in the group/pair takes their turn
This will continue until the story reaches its natural end or one or more of the writers decide they no longer want to continue the project**
Writers can make a mini presentation on their work to post on tumblr and you are free to share the work on this platform with the rest of the writeblr community!
**in this case, if the leaving writer permits the remaining writer may continue the story without them or receive a new partner!
This is supposed to be a fun way to explore themes and ideas and break away from things like outlining and plot lines and to just indulge in some writing, unabashed and unfiltered. Of course there are a few rules to make sure everyone has a great writing experience and I will check up on writers throughout the summer!
Rules:
no discussing plot
no editing other writers work
try your best to stick to the schedule - let your partner or me know if you need an adjustment!
do not repost any of the writing on other platforms
you may withdraw from the competition at any time
all members will receive a copy of the document at the end of the challenge!
I don’t know if I should make a discord server or not, so feel free to tell me if you think that’s something you would enjoy! The google form will be open for a week so please go ahead and reblog so anyone who is interested can join so I can match people as soon as possible. The challenge will run from early to mid september (unless you feel your story has reached a natural conclusion before that!).
Rules: Post seven sentences from your latest WIP and then tag (up to) seven people to do the same.
All of the following are lines from my upcoming novel, Flipping Out, a genderfuck coming-of-age crime/heist romance dramedy (genres are for cowards anyway). I hope you enjoy reading some of these as much as I enjoyed writing them.
1. It started in Fuckoff, Nowhere. Well, technically it started in Marston, Virginia, but who the fuck cares about Marston Fucking Virginia?
2. It was also far enough from any kind of major hub of human civilization for some old school “Dixie pride” — a dog-whistle so loud it could kill a chihuahua — to have seeped into the walls of the local Presbyterian church and to come dribbling out of the pastor’s mouth.
3. He took a step to the right and one of his dad’s sandals sailed through where his head had been a second ago. Even at the speed it was going, the scent trail was potent-going-on-pungent.
4. Smug had a face and it was, somehow, Sigmund Freud.
5. “the happiest day of a woman’s life is the day he realizes he can be a hot guy”
6. The trailer park near Plymouth, New Jersey was a hole; the kind of hole people fall into when a society is built like a latrine.
7. “Hey, I could still be a faggot.”
“What, like a girl-faggot?”
“Sure,” Beatrice said, raising her beer. “Girl who is a faggot. That’s me.”
“Woah.”
I cheated on number seven because I’m so proud of it lol. I don’t know a lot of writers on here yet, so I’ll pass it on to @uphillsky and @natalieironside and anyone else who feels like going for it.
