What's the difference between a drabble and a one-shot?

Hello! :oD going to post this publicly in case others are curious

To me, a “drabble” is a short-short story; how do I define “short-short”? Well, for me, that would be 1000 words or less.  Most people would probably say it should be shorter than that (500 words or less) but speaking for myself, I know I “write long” (overwrite) so I would say it’s a short-short story that you post, with a very brief and not-too-detailed plot, something simple and not too complex (unless you plan to make it a drabble series, with continuing pieces).

I would define a “one-shot” as being a self-contained story, i.e. it is the author’s intention to *not* make it a series, it’s just as it is, a single chapter story varying in length and characters and plot development, but the ultimate “goal” of a one-shot is to be a non multi-chaptered story

Ok you guys, this is the most perfectly wonderful thing ever.

You know when you're working on writing a story or drawing a picture or basically just being your creatively awesome self and you want to just get in the zone? So you gather up  all your shit (pens, pencils, paper, computer, headphones, references) and you put on your coat and wrap up in a scarf and find your keys and pet your cat goodbye and then realize that you need your wallet so you have to go back inside and then you FINALLY are out the door and you get in your car or walk down the street to the crowded little cafe that you love and you stand in line for a while and debate ordering a scone or a bagel to go with your beverage but you feel guilty for spending the money so you just drool over the pastry case instead then it's your turn and the barista gets all snooty and hipster-y at you because you weren't paying attention, you were looking at the pastries, so you have to take a second to remember what you were going to order and you drop your pencils while you're looking for your wallet (you KNOW you grabbed it, it's just BURIED somehow) and the people behind you click their tongues impatiently and you're so flustered that you end up buying a pastry that you had told yourself you were going to forego then you search for a table, but they're all taken, so you find a bar seat and try to scrunch all of your supplies onto the thin counter without getting too much into the space of the rest of the people sharing the bar seating and by this time you're all sweaty and tense so when they call out your order you don't even say "thank you" to the harried barista who's churning out her 600th latte of her shift and you put too much raw sugar in your drink because you don't want to leave your things unattended for too long so you're in a rush and when you finally shove your bag and notebooks aside to make room for the scone that doesn't look nearly as good on the plate as it did in the case and your over-sweet drink and sit down you have gotten so far out of the headspace you were in to CREATE (remember? that's why you came here in the first place) that you open up your laptop and scroll around tumblr for a while to relax and by the time your cup only has foamy residue and your is nothing but sticky crumbs you feel over-sugared and a little flushed and not at ALL in the mood to write or draw or plan or do and, besides, you've ended up staying so long that you really should be getting home now so you shrug into your coat and load up your things and drop of your dishes on your way out the door feeling disappointed that you didn't get accomplished what you set out to do today that you end up marathoning something stupid until 3am making you miss out on sleep (yet again) so you're cranky the next day?

Well, now you can brew up a pot of tea or coffee sit down in your comfy sweats with your kitty purring beside you and still have that nice, buzzy cafe feel to focus you and get your creative juices flowing.

Fellow writers, do not be afraid to pack away the electronics and pull out the ink when you’re writing.

Don’t worry about spelling and research for a minute. Just pull out some paper and scratch away with your pen.

Transcribe it to your computer and sit back in amazement at how much more you got written in one go and how easy it was to fix the spelling and grammar errors you made while long-handing it.

Seriously. Get away from the electronics and distractions. Let your creative juices flow.
