Remember why you are worshipping. Don't go through the motions.
Worship the Lord or Worship yourself?
I would say there's four different ways we can spend time and be with our Father. The most obvious one being prayer. We're also spending time in his presence when reading His word and through Communion.
Lastly we spend time with the Lord through Worship.
Something the enemy absolutely hates is when we're spending time with the Lord and he will do anything, I repeat, ANYTHING to make us not do it. He will distract us, put things in our way so we will lose focus on HIM, Jesus our King.
But when we worship, when we stand in the presence of the Lord with our eyes fixed on HIM , the enemy has NO power over us.
But do we always have our eyes fixed on him?
Worship is not just singing on the top of our voices, Worship is not about who has the best harmony or know the most words. Worship is not about your hairdo or your outfit. Worship is not to impress the person behind you. Worship is not to show everyone how close to the Lord you are
worship is not about you
IT IS ABOUT HIM
I say this just as much to myself as I say it to everyone else. So many times I stand in worship, my hands are raised and my eyes closed, but my mind... it's not where it's supposed to be.
How do I sound? Ouch, was that out of tune? Do I look good today? Nice dress she's wearing! Like those shoes. Ugh my foot is itching. Hmm I'm hungry. What's for dinner? I heard something was that my phone? Good song, Just need to look like I'm really filled with the Lord.
We often give our outer self to the Lord but do we give our hearts?
Do you give your heart? Do you really sing the words? Do you really mean it?
God, I pray that I will give more time in Worship for you. I pray Lord that my heart will be fixed on you, that my MIND will be fixed on you. Lord I pray that you will show me my flaws and forgive my sins, I pray that you will lead me closer to your cross and to you, Lord Jesus. I no longer want to be in the center of your worship. I want to put you in the center, always. and I need your help Father God, I need your help, I can't do it alone. Help me change my mindset. Help me put my focus to you.
Amen
This video is funny, but there is so much truth behind it. "I surrender...some" I'm so guilty of this. I do not surrender all to God, I surrender some. During worship I'm more focused on me and not focused on God.
They did this at church yesterday and while I was laughing at it, I was definitely convicted because I'm so guilty of doing exactly what they're doing.
Day 19 of #366love (Jan 19)
In Christianity, worship is adoration and contemplation of God. The word "worship" in English literally means “to give worth to” or “to acclaim as worthy.” God doesn't NEED our worship, but he alone DESERVES our worship because of who He is and is most definitely "worthy" of our praise through the act on the cross. It is an act of love. Just as the theme of my blog states: "We love because he first Loved us." (1 John 4:19)
Today ends my week long 'musical praise' streak. I realized that I've had epic praise sessions since my SLT Retreat last Friday followed by Sunday service and 3 amazing evenings at the “Greater Toronto Spiritual Life Convention”. While it has certainly be amazing to give praise to my God in this way, 'worship' is definitely way way way more than just singing songs. A life of praise and worship fills our deepest need and brings us joy IF any ONLY IF we do it out of an expression of love and awe in response to God's love.
No matter how we express it, be it through singing, dancing, playing music, drawing, writing or in some other way, it HAS to be "God Centered" and not "me" or "us" centered, otherwise its not true worship at all. We are called to 'worship' in our every day actions and every day lives, to a God who is holy, loving and worthy of all our praise.
"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." - Deuteronomy 6:5
Been wanting to share this video titled "Wrong Worship" for a while now! It's hilarious but also watch and reflect on our own hearts. It's not for looking at others and judging them, but for self examination FIRST.
*edit* Just read a quote that best describes this video: "Christians don't tell lies. They go to church... and sing them."
I posted this on the DC*B blog, but now I'm posting it here. Every Christian should watch this.
As funny as this is, it is an accurate model of some people's worship lifestyle. Are you one of those people?
