I cannot sleep and I can't stand it
considering I have to be to work at seven. Anyways last night I received a letter in the mail stating that i owed a gym, that I went to sometime last year, almost $500, from a collection agency. BUT what pisses me off is, until yesterday. . .I had not heard a single thing from the gym/billing agency, anyone about this. So I don't think its fair that I would have to pay it. NOT only that, when I "signed up" for the gym, I was told it wasn't a contract, I would pay for my first month and my last month when I began, and pay monthly, if I decided not to go any longer, the last month was taken care of because you paid it in the beginning. Anyways, they're saying that I signed a contract stating that I would tell them if I was no longer going or I'd be charged. I was never told this, so I don't know how I would know this. Also if I remember correctly my monthy payment ranged from $20-30 a month. . .I can't remember the exact amount I had to pay, anyways, I did the math and thats saying that I owe them for 14-25 months! I don't believe it has been that long. I stopped going shortly before I started working where I am now. And that has been 8 months now. So the most this could be is 10 to 11 months. So I'm also being wrongly charged. But thats still not even the point. I have not received a single phone call, email, bill, anything stating I owed them any amount of money to begin with. If I had, with the first bill, I would have paid and canceled. But I never did, so they've been wracking up these ridiculous charges that I never even knew existed. I know I cannot be in fault with this. I don't feel I should have to pay it. I was never once informed that I had a bill. So they're in the wrong and they should take their losses. I haven't even stepped foot in their facilities in a few months. When I called to speak to the gym the guy on the phone, was giving me a life lecture because I "sound young" about reading contracts. So clearly they knew they hadn't told me the WHOLE deal. Also he was being a dick about how "if you lease or buy a car and sell it someone else and that person stops making the payments and you didn't tell the bank you sold it, then that's on you, because the bank doesn't know that you haven't been driving that car for x amount of months since you sold it". That's completely different. . .because like he said the bank doesn't know that I wasn't driving that car if I did not tell them I sold it. BUT the gym knows the last time I swiped my card to get in there. So they know when I last went and I payed my bill for my final month there. This is just ridiculous. I do not have $500 to pay, that I shouldn't even owe. I never received anything at all. This is the first time I'm hearing about it. But according to the collection agency they have tried to contact me for the past six months. BULLSHIT. I never got any bill AT all. Not even a phone call. And obviously they had my information correct or else I wouldn't have received that either. I just don't know what to do and this is the reason I cannot sleep.
